Description

Stevie Diaz has a husband she loves and a job she hates. Her life is unremarkable—until she answers the phone at work one night, only to hear a woman fleeing for her life before the call abruptly ends with what Stevie swears is a gunshot.

Stevie Diaz has never been great at leaving well enough alone, and unfortunately she recognized the voice on the other end of the call. Now, she’s determined to figure out what happened. And if she ruins her own life in the process, well, it’ll be worth it to learn the truth.

For someone who hates secrets, Stevie keeps a lot of them. For someone who’s not a fan of being lied to, Stevie has a problem with honesty—maybe with herself most of all.

In the Woods Somewhere is a neo-noir story of love and friendship, obsession and betrayal, secrets and lies, and what happens when the weight of the past comes crashing down.

I loved this book, all the elements were there for a great thriller, who done it book. It was easy to read, the chapter were semi short, and the story was great. i was hooked straight into this book. can you imagine being the call operator. you take a call and its someone you know fleeing from danger. only the call is dropped....!!! yes please im in.
this is a mystery thriller with extra heart. we meet Stevie. Stevie feels like she is plodding in life, everything is just meh. but a phone call takes her life to a full throttle turn of secrets and lies and not just the ones she is telling herself. Stevie is one determined woman. and she wont stop until she unveils the truth. but that will put her at risk. shes putting herself in danger and not stopping. what will come of her when the truths come out and can she keep herself safe in order to make that happen. because for a woman that wants the truth she is certainly finding herself hiding from the ones shes telling.
this book was so much more complex than a mystery chase. the character of Stevie has so much more to unravel herself. i knew id root for this woman and i wasnt even sure why at times! because i wanted to stop her and shake her in moments. but i also wanted to know more about her and also the things she was uncomvering.
this was such a unique book to me and took it up a notch in terms of the depth of content. it had a good breath of everything.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!

In the Woods Somewhere by Sam Evans starts off with a bang and a missing person. The main character, Stephanie Diaz, is bound and determined to figure out who did it. The story was entertaining and the suspense was intense (for me). It was a solid read. Stephanie is a complex character with some complex relationships (some I didn't quite understand) but overall a good book.
