Description
In the year 3051, on planet Nevarnost, nineteen-year-old Kevin Hale is determined to uncover the truth. After his uncle is accused of masterminding an explosion that left hundreds stranded outside the protective dome they call home, Kevin is willing to risk it all to clear his uncle's name and restore his family's honor.
Vaida Wardell has other plans. Driven by grief and anger, she's vowed to hold the chancellor-and anyone involved in the deadly attack-accountable for the tragedy that claimed countless lives. Justice, in her eyes, cannot wait. Not even for the truth.
Thirty-two years later, on the distant Violet Moon, Timber Hale faces exile after refusing to kill a moon worm during his Coming of Age ceremony. On the night of his sentencing, his father offers a path to redemption: travel back in time to 3051 alongside Delorean Mars-a boy who wants nothing to do with him-and prevent the impending dust storm that will one day wipe Nevarnost from existence.
Time travel is just the beginning. To save the future, Timber and Mars must convince Vaida and Kevin to work together not only in their pursuits for justice but for their very survival. Failure in their mission could alter the course of history forever-leaving Timber and Mars with no home to return to.

I loved this book so much I read it twice!
I sincerely hope that book two is already written and we don’t have to wait six years for the next book (chuckle) - my heart won’t be able to take it. Just saying. No pressure Kayla. Well…okay…a little pressure.🤣
Violet Moon is the sort of time travel book that I can get behind. I love Mars and Timber. Both characters are hiding secrets from themselves and others. They are scarred from the battles they have fought that no one knows about. They are sent on a mission that they may not come back from which frees them from constraints and allows them to see each other when normally they would walk away. I love their story.
Then we have Vaida and Kevin. I also love their story. Two characters who have been living a life of lies. Both are completely different and strive for completely different objectives yet they become the light for each other.
Kayla Maurais doesn’t shy away from some tough topics as Violet Moon delves into addiction, parental and sibling death, grief, unexpected pregnancy, violence, bullying, and classism. They're subtler issues woven throughout but they are common themes in sci-fi.
The secondary cast is large and I hope we see some of them again. I think I have two favorites and one of them is a really big cat (chuckle). The other one is Nia who is Vaida’s best friend. I want to know so much more. There’s another character who shows up at the end of the book who sounds like a hoot and holler and I can’t wait to read more about them in the next book.
I love Violet Moon. Escaping into this delightful sci-fi romance where there is action, banter, violence, and danger was a trip I loved so much I’ve already done it twice. Violet Moon is the summer read you need to escape the heat with.

3/5 ARC read
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book – it was fast-paced and immediately pulled me in. Around the 20% mark, though, the story started to slow down. It remained interesting, especially thanks to the impressive and detailed world-building, which added a lot of depth. However, I found the slower middle section a bit difficult to get through, which affected my overall reading experience. That's why I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars.
💕thank you netgalley and Kayla Maurais for providing me with this e-arc to read and review

weird & beautifully written.
i'm a huge fan of sci-fi but i can never find something that hits all the major aspects of ME. the BORDERLANDS meets REBEL MOON meets time travel. i love the multi-pov's & the intricate way kayla weaves a tale of political intrigue & a world that you can easily submerge into.
one of the best indies i've ever picked up
