Description

What do you do when you discover the man you’re falling in love with is the same person who tried to kill you?

Rachel Thomas, an amateur photographer, ventures into the countryside to capture the elusive black beasts of the Cotswolds. What she stumbles upon instead is something darker – an underground people-smuggling operation. After being brutally attacked and left for dead, Rachel's life takes a terrifying turn. Detective Mark Mulroney, newly promoted and doubting his capabilities, is assigned to the case. But his investigation takes an unexpected twist when the leader of the smuggling ring befriends Rachel, hoping to extract what she knows about their illegal activities.

Can the police find the gang before Rachel's dangerous romance puts her life in jeopardy, or will she reveal what she has discovered and destroy her lover?

From the author of Virgin at Fifty, Wild Girls and Mayflies, comes another glimpse into rural life behind the facade of wooded hills, wildflower fields and pretty cottages. As always, the compelling story will keep you guessing until the last page and every character is someone you may either love, or love to hate.

About the author

Pam Keevil grew up in a small village in Hertfordshire where she attended Francis Bacon Grammar School before reading history at York University. She completed the prestigious PGCE at Goldsmiths College in 1977 and taught for over thirty years in a variety of schools in London, Essex and Gloucestershire and was a head teacher for sixteen of those years.

Like many people, she began writing through a love of reading; a love that began as a little girl when she would climb a tree in her garden, perch in the crook of the branches with a book and a handful of chocolate biscuits. After embarking on an MA in Creative and Critical Writing, she realised what she really enjoyed was the psychological interplay between characters and the relationships between them. So far, she has three books published and all have strong dynamics between the characters, notably Mayflies, which contains a love square and advice from the supernatural!
