Description
Where We Come From is a deeply emotional, slow-burn romance set in the heart of rural India, where love has to be earned—and sometimes, fought for.
After being betrayed by the woman he once trusted with his future, Surya Atwal is done with love. Determined to protect his legacy and avoid heartbreak, he places a no-nonsense ad for a bride—someone quiet, dependable, and aligned with his dream of a peaceful home and family. This time, he'll choose with his head, not his heart.
Enter Ashtami Sial—a bold, no-nonsense Delhi girl who matches her bangles to her churidars and doesn’t care what anyone thinks. She’s not here to be anyone’s obedient wife or baby machine. What she wants is a real partnership built on love—and she’s ready to fight for it, even if it means wrangling stubborn husbands and herding cattle in a dusty Haryana village.
In Rori, where the only neighbors are chickens and tradition, Surya and Ashtami clash over more than just chores. As the challenges of rural life mount, so do the cracks in their fragile new marriage—made worse by the lingering ghost of Surya’s past.
Will Surya finally let go of the woman who broke him? Or will his fear of being hurt again cost him the one person who truly sees him?
Where We Come From is a poignant, sharply observed story of resilience, redemption, and what it truly means to love someone—beyond the past, beyond pride, and beyond pain.

Where We Come From took its time with me in the best way—slow, honest, and completely immersive. Surya and Ashtami felt so real, with raw edges and emotional depth that made their rocky path to love incredibly satisfying. I appreciated how the story didn’t rush into romance but gave space for trust and healing to grow. What stayed with me most was the way it captured the push and pull of expectations, pain, and possibility in marriage. I couldn’t put it down because I kept rooting for them—not just to fall in love, but to understand each other.

Okay, okay—listen up! I was not ready for the emotional mic drops this book delivers! Where We Come From is like if Bollywood drama and real-world relationship therapy had a literary baby and raised it in a village with cows, gossiping aunties, and 💣 chemistry. Ashtami? Total QUEEN. Surya? A grumpy cinnamon roll with trauma. Watching these two fight, flirt, and figure each other out was pure joy—and yes, I laughed, I yelled at Surya, and I might've fist-pumped when Ashtami put him in his place. READ. THIS. BOOK. 💥🐓💍

Love, Lassi, and a Lot of Luggage
This slow-burn romance had me yelling at the characters, swooning in the fields, and rooting for love like it was the finals of a reality show set in rural India—10/10, would herd cattle for Surya and Ashtami!
