In 1970s Gatineau Canada, a young entrepreneur's ambition spirals into a dark world of crime and betrayal, testing the limits of love, loyalty, and morality.
At just twenty years old, Ernest McCloskey is a rising star in the real estate world, and determined to carve out his place in the industry. On the brink of realizing his dreams, his ruthless ambition draws him into a dangerous partnership with the charming yet manipulative Alejandro Prince, and a world where loyalty is a luxury and betrayal is a currency.
As they navigate the cutthroat world of construction and finance, they find themselves ensnared in a world of corruption, where powerful unions and the local mafia threaten to destroy everything they’ve worked for. When violence erupts and tragedy strikes, Ernest is pushed to the edge, forced to make choices that blur the lines between right and wrong.
Now, grappling with the consequences of his ambition, and with a sudden thirst for vengeance, Ernest must confront the darkness within himself and the world around him. With his empire crumbling, the young man faces a haunting question: Will he sacrifice everything for success, or can he reclaim his humanity before it’s too late?

My Thoughts:
The first in a series, and it promises to be a roller coaster ride. Fast moving, well written, and with just the right amount of balance between action and description. I love page-turning books that keep me on the edge of my seat, and this is one of those really good books. I will look for more by this author.
Andre Durivage’s Ernest is thriller that shows how wealthy people treat and manipulate people for personal gain.Durivage weaves an intriguing plot. Ernest a young man’'s rise in an industry where union thugs wield baseball bats, organized crime hovers at the edges of construction sites Ernest’s world is one of constant pressure: workers intimidated, materials stolen, inspectors bought off, and financiers waiting to collect. Jeannette with, her loyalty and intelligence with strikingly sharp with Alejandro’s taking opportunities as and when they arise, regardless of planning or principles.
IThe story resonates not merely because of the external dangers but because of the quiet decomposing inside Ernest. A once determined dreamer who labored beside his men, he comes to equate loyalty with innocence and betrayal to survive.. Durivage’s clipped, unsentimental prose captures this transformation with a sense of inevitability. A dark, engrossing start to a family saga, this is a study in how ambition, unchecked, desstroys everything it touches.
I found the book intriguing, it was a real pager turner, I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I would recommend to those who enjoy a good mystery and series.
