Description

What if the vampire Darcy could not control his carnal desires?

In this thrilling and sensual adaptation of the classic love story, Elizabeth Bennet and the citizens of Hertfordshire know Fitzwilliam Darcy to be a proud, unpleasant sort of man, but they never suspect the dark secret of his true nature. He is not a man at all – but a vampire.

When the haughty and wealthy Fitzwilliam Darcy arrives in the rural county of Hertfordshire, he finds he cannot control his attraction to Elizabeth Bennet – a horrifying thought because, as she is too far below his social standing to ignite his heart, he fears she must appeal to the dark impulses he struggles to suppress.

Set against the vivid backdrop of historical Regency England, this adaptation of Pride and Prejudice follows the cursed Mr. Darcy as he endeavours to overcome both his love and his bloodlust for Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Although Pulse and Prejudice adheres to the original plot and style of the Jane Austen classic, it is neither a “mash-up” nor "fan fiction" but an imaginative, thrilling variation told primarily from Mr. Darcy’s point of view as he descends into the seedier side of London and introduces Elizabeth to a world of passion and the paranormal she never knew existed.

Pulse and Prejudice has been meticulously researched for historical accuracy and remains faithful to nineteenth century literary conventions and Miss Austen’s narrative. The author spent fifteen months traveling to Britain and researching Regency England, as well as vampire lore and literature. In the few instances in which the plots overlap, excerpts from canon have been expertly woven in so that prior knowledge of Pride and Prejudice is not required for full enjoyment of this remarkable novel.

Please Note: Adult content. Although the first three volumes adhere to the plot of Miss Austen's classic romance, a fourth volume - Beyond Pride and Prejudice - has been added, which contains scenes of a sensual nature. Readers who would find this offensive or prefer Darcy and Elizabeth to remain chaste should skip Volume IV and proceed from Volume III to the Epilogue.

Austenprose Readers’ Choice: Top 5 Books of the Year* “I cannot express enough how skeptical I was upon starting this book. Pride and Prejudice with a touch of vampires was enough to send me into fits of eye rolls. But, within only the first chapter, I found myself strangely drawn to the story. The vampire Darcy weaves his spell quickly.” Austenprose

“This was a really wonderful version of Pride and Prejudice! It was perfectly done. I loved reading my favorite story and this author weaved the Vampire story in incredibly perfect. Her way of turning this story into Darcy being a vampire was done with such finesse. Jane Austen herself would have been very diverted reading it.” Richard Green

“I recommend this book whole heartedly. This is a good re-telling, gripping and entertaining without being outrageous.” Austen Prequels and Sequels

“I was blown away with how good this is. Colette tells it mainly from Darcy's tortured POV and so many things make so much more sense when it's revealed some of the characters are vampires. We get a lot of back story and Colette ties everything together so well. I was truly impressed, and it takes a lot to impress me.” The Right Words in the Right Order

I am a HUGE fan of Pride & Prejudice. It's one of the books that I reread every year. As such, I was interested to see how Colette Saucier took that story and incorporated Darcy being a vampire. I'll admit, I didn't get my expectations up that it would be good. After reading the book, I was somewhat surprised by just how much I actually liked it! I saw that there's another book continuing the story so now I want to read it too.

I am a total sucker for anything involving Pride and Prejudice, so I easily snapped ip the chance to read and review Pulse and Prejudice by Collette Saucier. I really enjoyed the book and can say that this is one of the most thorough retellings I have encountered. Not a scene was lost and there were some pleasant additions owing mostly to the fact that this version is largely from Darcy's POV.

I loved the insight into what happened in all those inbetween times when Elizabeth was not in his company. Plus, I felt even more attuned to his character after watching him struggle with unfamiliar emotions from a more intimate perspective. I just fell in love with Mr. Darcy a little more. I can even get on board with a little vampiric adventure added to the equation. He's just a tad more tormented and broody now that he has blood lust to deal with on top of his ardent admiration.

If you are true fan of P&P and you can stretch your imagination to include a little paranormal and a little sizzle, I recommend you give this one a whirl.

If you're familiar with my blog at all, you'll notice a pattern. I try to read every Jane Austen re-telling I can get my hands on. I love love love the original, Pride & Prejudice as well as vampire novels. I just KNEW I was going to love this one. Well, the verdict is in: I did!

Ms. Saucier kept true to the P&P story plot while adding in a fantastic element: Mr. Darcy has become a vampire. The interesting part in reading this book, was that the author explained away a lot of Darcy's standoffishness and rudeness as merely a result of him being a vampire. He felt left out of the crowd due to his difference from the carefree humans at town dances and household meetings. He felt different because he was different.

No longer a human, many things changed in his life. He had decided he no longer wanted to marry and had no interest in any women since his transformation. All of that changed when Elizabeth Bennet entered his life. Could he possibly still feel human emotion? Could he still want a woman in a human way?

You'll have to read to find out, but I highly recommend that you do!

Let me start off by saying I LOVED this book. I admit I am a Jane Austen fan and I love paranormal books. Colette L. Saucier’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice filled that niche perfectly. In reading this book Saucier was true to the original in language and timing. The only difference is that now we know Mr. Darcy to be a vampire (and I repeat she did it perfectly) and this story is told a majority from his perspective. When the plots overlap we see Miss Bennet in the same story that we have already read and or watched as a movie. The best part about this is that if you by some chance have not read or at least seen the movie Pride and Prejudice you still do not have to to enjoy The Confession of Mr Darcy, Vampire. YOU DON”T HAVE TO HAVE READ THE Jane Austen’s original Pulse and Prejudice. In the 4th volume Beyond Pride and Prejudice - has been added, which contains scenes of a sensual nature This is where the telling veers off but still stays true to the spirit of the plots. Readers who would find this offensive or prefer Darcy and Elizabeth to remain chaste should skip Volume IV and proceed from Volume III to the Epilogue. I love how Saucier seamlessly fitted these two stories’ plots together. Now we can all see why Mr. Darcy is the way he and get to know and understand him and his motives. I LOVED THIS BOOK so much I want the physical book! I was provided a copy of Colette L. Saucier’s Pulse and Prejudice: The Confession of Mr Darcy, Vampire through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I did not realize when requesting this book that I already purchased a copy of the book; however, I enjoyed reading it the second time as much as I did the first time. It was a very intense story, but very enjoyable, and the events between Lydia and Wickham were actually funny. I would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy a paranormal element added to the lives of Elizabeth and Darcy, and the love story is just as enjoyable between the two main characters.
