Description

A possibly unsolvable cold case has gone even colder. It began with a missing person complaint on Halloween night. Clues at the scenes pointed to military-style traps and analog gear. Each new incident was signed by silence, precision, and a soldier’s fingerprint.

In The Big East—a volatile, alternate universe city plagued by gang warfare and political corruption—hot-tempered, old school Detective Charlie Dawson is handed three untested rookie detectives he doesn’t trust to investigate the brutal kidnapping case that’s haunted him for years.

With his trusty old revolver and instincts sharper than most A.I., Dawson reads suspects’ body language like case files - frown lines, posture, blink speed. What other agents call minor clues, Dawson calls evidence. He doesn’t do politics. Doesn’t ask for backup. He’s respected in the streets and feared in the precinct. He still believes in justice—even if the system around him gave up.

Dawson suspects Tom Caldwell, a former weapons specialist from an elite recon unit in his career-defining investigation, but with only trace evidence at the scenes and no digital trail to follow, every attempt to trap Caldwell turns into an ambush. And, the deeper Dawson digs, the more the clues whisper: This isn’t just another criminal… it’s war.

Amid the chaos, Miss Rose enters—an ambitious reporter who stirs something in Dawson’s guarded heart. But when she gets caught in the crossfire, Dawson must decide whether to let her in or protect her from the life he can’t escape.

As the ruthless gangs tighten their grip on the city and political corruption brews in secret meetings, can Dawson navigate the explosive collision of power, violence, and betrayal…all while racing against time to save those he loves most?

A possibly unsolvable cold case has gone even colder. It began with a missing person complaint on Halloween night. Clues at the scenes pointed to military-style traps and analog gear. Each new...

Justice has a new name… and it’s grumpy, gritty, and not here to play.

Holy plot twist, Batman! This book had me sweating like I was in the interrogation room myself! 🤯 I mean, Detective Dawson? Total legend. He’s cranky, clever, and could probably stare down a shark. The whole Big East world is like Gotham on steroids, and I couldn’t flip pages fast enough. Explosions? Check. Shady reporters? Yep. Sexy tension? You betcha. If you're into edge-of-your-seat action with brainy grit and grizzled feels, Ding Dong Ditch is your jam. I’m officially obsessed. 💥🕵️‍♂️🔥

Grit, Guts, and a Gun-Smoking Mystery - If you're into gritty detective fiction with a pulse, Ding Dong Ditch: The Shadows of Big East delivers in spades. The story follows old-school Detective Charlie Dawson, who’s still fighting for justice in a corrupt, gang-infested city where silence is deadly and every clue is a trap. I was totally hooked by the no-nonsense storytelling, layered with suspense, heart, and just enough emotional tug from the subplot with Miss Rose. I couldn’t stop reading because I had to know if Dawson would catch the ghost-like killer—or lose everything trying. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to pour a bourbon and read it in one sitting.

This was a joy to read. The noir vibes and the old detective genre is one of my favorites. This was super entertaining and very well written. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC. All opinions are my own.
