Description
Mid Wales, 1795. Falsely accused of a crime, cousins Edward Bebb and Ezekiel Hughes are forced to flee their homeland, hunted like animals across the rugged mountains.
Escaping to America, they brave a perilous Atlantic crossing, hoping to build new lives in a land of opportunity. After surviving their first brutal winter in Philadelphia, they venture into the untamed wilderness of the Northwest Territory—where law is scarce, and life is cheap. Will they survive in this unforgiving frontier?
Edward transforms into a hardened mountain man, befriended by the wise Grey Owl and later adopted by the Shawnee. Together, they battle wild animals, hostile tribes, and ruthless men, forging a bond of survival in the harshest conditions. Ezekiel, on the other hand, becomes a successful landowner and pillar of the Welsh community in a fledgling settlement.
Bound by blood and friendship, the cousins find love and start families, but fate delivers tragedy. As they continue their fight against corrupt men, they must take justice into their own hands in the barren wilderness.
Amidst this struggle, America finds itself at war with Britain on its northern borders. The cousins, now seasoned frontier fighters, join the local militia, defending their new homeland in a bitter, snow-covered wasteland.
In a world where survival is the only law, their courage, loyalty, and resolve are put to the ultimate test.

I really enjoyed this as a opening chapter to the Bebb Saga series, it had that historical element that I was looking for and enjoyed how good the characters were in this universe. I was glad it had that feel that I was wanting and enjoyed the Western concept for this book. It has a strong plot and enjoyed the overall feel that I was wanting. David W Morgan has a strong writing style and left me wanting to read more in this series.
A very good and interesting story. It is well researched and easy to believe. It’s based on a true story. I highly recommend reading it.

I honestly couldn't get into the story andbI don't understand why. The writing was very good so I don't understand.
I’m fascinated by early American history and was intrigued to read this story. Overall, it is a fast-paced story with plenty of action and descriptions of events that befell young Edward and Ezekiel and their life in the early American colonies at the end of the 18th/early 19th centuries. I only realised at the end of the book that it is part 1 of a saga as it ends rather abruptly.
The writing is a narrative/observational style telling from an omniscient narrator. There’s little showing or insight into the characters’ thoughts and feelings. As a result, there’s lots of recounting and information dumps throughout, and hardly any reference to the main two characters' thoughts and feelings. There’s plenty of historical and geographical information inserted that they’d know nothing about and based on our subsequent modern knowledge. It reads more like an historical account than a story at times. It's things they did and things that happened to them. There’s an overuse of adjectives with everything being over-described, so much so it’s distracting from the actual storyline. I felt it needed a more thorough edit to remove unnecessary adjectives and adverbs.
Overall an interesting, fast-paced story that gives you plenty of historical background information.
