You're the love of Esther's life. You just don't know it yet...

Esther first sees Ted walking in a park in London. They lock eyes and for a fraction of a second, she feels something she’s never felt before.

She starts by reading up about his life in Canada and his work as an actor. Then she watches every interview with him online. It isn’t long before she’s joined Ted’s fan site online where her and the ‘Tedettes’ stalk his every move.

When Ted gets a new celebrity girlfriend, Esther decides that things have gone far enough. She leaves her husband, takes all their savings, and buys a one-way ticket to Canada.

After all, Ted might not know it yet, but they are meant to be together – he just needs a little bit of persuading...

This is a sharply written story that focuses around an adrift woman in London who escalates into becoming a stalker after a series of negative events. The book deals sensitively with miscarriage and also depicts the experience of being in a dying relationship beautifully.
I loved this and was amused but often moved by Esther. She's a relatable character and her descent felt credible and well planned out. The author's understanding of psychology was strong. I was utterly immersed in this and hope that Sweeney writes more. She's a talented author as well as being a great journalist.

I loved this book. What I thought would be fun and light-hearted was a much darker, grittier read. Esther sees a man in a park one day and realises he is a Canadian actor. She has just experienced a traumatic event and this gives her something else to think about. She starts doing a little digging around on this guy online and eventually she takes her savings and leaves her husband behind in London to go to Toronto to seek him out.

This is much more than a 'faithful follower' scenario. This explores grief, loneliness and obsessive behaviour which is all captured so well and draws the reader in. We feel a mixture of sadness and horror at Esther's behaviour, which seems to know no boundaries. She is unaware of the people she is hurting because she hurts too. And it's a classic tale of be careful what you wish for. Will Esther's 'love' story end in a happily ever after? Wow. Highly recommended!
