Description

The Sunday Times Bestseller from the acclaimed author of the Crowns of Nyaxia series, Carissa Broadbent.

A former slave fighting for justice.

A reclusive warrior who no longer believes it exists.

And a dark magic that will entangle their fates . . .

Ripped from a forgotten homeland as a child, Tisaanah learned how to survive with nothing but a sharp wit and a touch of magic. But the night she tries to buy her freedom, she barely escapes with her life.

Desperate to save the best friend she left behind, Tisaanah journeys to the Orders, the most powerful organizations of magic Wielders in the world. To join their ranks, she must complete an apprenticeship with Maxantarius Farlione, a handsome and reclusive fire wielder who despises the Orders. The Orders’ intentions are cryptic, and Tisaanah must prove herself under the threat of looming war. But even more dangerous are her growing feelings for Maxantarius. The bloody past he wants to forget may be the key to her future . . . or the downfall of them both.

Tisaanah will stop at nothing to save those she abandoned. Even if it means gambling in the Orders’ deadly games. Even if it means sacrificing her heart. Even if it means wielding death itself.

Daughter of No Worlds is a fantastical tale of passionate romance, vengeance and redemption – the first in the breathtaking War of Lost Hearts trilogy.

I will start this off by saying Carissa Broadbent is one of my absolute favourite authors but that doesn't stop me from giving honest reviews (hopefully not too biased)
Saying that. This book absolutely gets 5 stars from me.

Tisannah is one of my favourite FMCs, she is brave beautiful despite what may be thought about her looks and just honestly so funny.

Max - my fav grumpy guy. "Breath takingly functional" never thought those words would go together but boy does he may you swoon.

The character development, the magic, the story. incredible.

Also I absolutely love how Tisannah not speaking the language as her first language is portrayed, it really shows it not as a trivial background thing, spoken about once and never brought up again, she gets words wrong, doesn't know the words for everyday things and gets grammar wrong. I think it's written so well.

I loved every second, never felt bored and boy that cliff hanger at the end...

Carissa Broadbent, you did it again 👌👌

Daughter of No Worlds is a fantastic opening book to the War of Lost Hearts series. The plot grabbed me straight away and I really felt for the two main characters, FMC Tisaanah and MMC Max. Both of their stories tugged at the heart strings and I loved their slow burn, strangers-to-friends-to-love arc. It wasn't overly spicy (one scene) but it was an emotional journey. I'm definitely going to be finishing off the series!

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy from Pan Macmillan and NetGalley but this is my voluntary and honest review.

Thank you so much to the publisher and netgalley for approving me for a Carissa Broadbent arc. Never thought I would see the day.

Firstly I adore Carissa’s writing style and world building. And I really enjoy the new traditionally published cover art for daughter of no world. I did originally think this series was a pirate fantasy series based on the old ones ha!

I love this book and I’m glad it’s getting it’s moment to be discovered by more readers than already read it as an indie series.

Thank you to Pan Macmillan, Tor Bramble, and NetGalley for the eARC of Daughter of No Worlds.

Carissa Broadbent has written the kind of romantasy that lingers. It’s emotional, sharp, and unafraid to dig into what power, freedom, and love truly mean.

Tisaanah is unforgettable. Her fight is both external and internal—raw, messy, and beautifully human. One line in particular has stayed with me: “Men want power because it makes them feel good. Women want power because it lets us do things.” That clarity of purpose runs through every step of her journey. She refuses to be a victim, even when forced into impossible situations, saying: “I had spent the night cutting myself up into little pieces for consumption, forcing people to acknowledge me, thrusting my pain into their faces.”

Her declaration—“My name is Tisaanah. I am a free woman and yet still a slave. I am fragments of many things but a whole of only myself. I am a daughter of no worlds, and all worlds. And I am not done yet.”—is the heart of this book: resilience, survival, and the refusal to be broken.

And then there’s Max. The brooding mentor who doesn’t just teach her magic but slowly, unknowingly, lets her reshape his world. His confession—“Still, I didn’t realize… every time I was without her, I found myself collecting little stories and oddities to tell her about when I saw her again, like stones that I slipped into my pockets”—is one of the most intimate, romantic moments I’ve ever read. Later, his simple vow—“I have nothing else.” And there was no hesitation, no pause, as he stepped closer and said, “You have me.”—broke me completely.

Broadbent’s writing balances politics, battles, and philosophy with gorgeous, lyrical prose: “Every moment in life was a coin with one dark side and one light. They fell on the ground with one side facing up, but the other always lay beneath it, there, but hidden.” She captures both the brutality and beauty of living, and reminds us that, “It begins with two souls who find themselves suddenly, utterly alone.”

This isn’t just a romance. It’s a story of survival, love, and claiming your place in a world determined to erase you. Five stars. Looking forward to reading the next one :)

"Daughter of No Worlds" is an absolute triumph of a fantasy novel. From the very first page, I was completely swept away by the intricate and magical world the author has built. The characters are incredibly well-developed and easy to root for, especially the protagonist, who embarks on a powerful journey of self-discovery. The romance is beautifully written and adds another layer of depth to the story without overshadowing the high-stakes plot.

The pacing is perfect, with a balance of heart-pounding action and quieter, character-driven moments that allow you to truly connect with the cast. The magic system is unique and fascinating, and I loved every twist and turn the plot took. This book has everything: adventure, romance, compelling characters, and a world you won't want to leave. It's an instant favorite and a must-read for any fantasy lover.

This book will always be a favourite and especially Max and Tisannahs's relationship from friends and slowly to lovers. The respect and thoughtfulness that Tisannah has for Max and what he has been through is portrayed in such a relatable and caring way, even though she has had a tough past Tisannah still has this selflessness about her and her kindness and humour is so refreshing.

Their story is so beautifully written, heartbreaking, action packed and has one of the best romances I have ever read. The magic system is done so well and the world building is amazing and the way Carissa writes is so imaginative and engaging it makes you feel like you are experiencing everything the characters are going through.

I really cannot recommend this book or series enough, there is a reason it has stayed with me for the longest of times and that's because it truly is such a phenomenal story.

This book was such a breath of fresh air with such amazing characters.

Tisaanah is such a strong and determined girl who is fighting for those that she loves and protects them as much as she can. She is incredibly strong willed and stubborn but not like the annoying stubborn type. I really enjoyed the pacing of this book because it really shows all that she has to get through in order to reach her goals and help those she can. Between struggling to learn a new language and the hard effort she put in to learn was so good in this book!

Max is such a sweetheart when you get past that hard exterior. He’s so witty and dry humored which I loved. And I also really liked seeing his past and the things he has had to go through in order to survive and do what he has with his life. He also sometimes should think before he speaks… but ya know.

The side characters were done so nicely and had the perfect amount of appearance in the story. Moth was definitely a favorite as I am also as clumsy as he is. They really gave so much great depth to the story that I wouldn’t mind seeing them in their own books.

The romance…. It was super subtle in the beginning but let me tell you that tension grew! Absolutely enjoyed seeing max and Tisaanah have their little moments and touches. The friendship that blossomed after a while was so inviting and heartwarming.

Carissa Broadbent does it again. I adore her writing style, the way she builds atmosphere and her complex characters. The politics, world building, and female rage were a delight to read. The grumpy x sunshine dynamic with Max and Tisaanah was perfect - the banter had me giggling.

My only criticism is it took me a bit to get invested, but once I was in I was fully in.

Thank you so much to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the arc!

I absolutely adore Carissa Broadbent's writing, and fell in love with her Crowns of Nyaxia series. So I was very excited to read Daughter of No Worlds.
Thank you to NetGalley, Carissa, and Pacmillan for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Tisaanah is such a beautiful character. Her resilience, strength and determination to overcome her traumatic past, and the purity of her heart is just beautiful. She wants to make the world better, to save the people she was enslaved with and will do everything and anything she can in order to make that happen, even if that means sacrificing part of herself. Her development of her magic, and her character development as a whole made me love her so much.

And Maxantarius, that man 😍 Traumatised by the deeds of his past, Max is an antisocial hermit who has distanced himself from the world. He is forced into apprenticing Tisaanah in her magic, and the development of their relationship is so heartwarming.

The side characters were great, and I honestly can’t wait to see more of them too, and seeing how this story develops.

The ending, oh my god it was gripping!!I need to know what happens after that ending! I’m really looking forward to reading the next books and seeing the development of Tisaanah and Max’s relationship, and seeing where the story takes us.

I am convinced that Carissa CANNOT write a bad book, even if she tried. I will say it every time, she could write a washing machine manual, I would still put in on my bedside table and read it religiously every night like a prayer. There is truly not a single elements in her books I don't absolutely adore and she is my top auto-buy author, blindly, every single time, no questions asked. If you are a romantasy fan and have not read her books, why are you here, RUN and go get them!

Everything about this book is 10/10 for me
- Worldbuilding& magic system: It's solid, effortless, never overwhelming, always unique and so inspired.
- Writing: I love the way Carissa weaves words and strings her sentences. I know I'm reading one of her books, she has a familiar and signature-like style. Her books always read with no bumps, no jarring moments, just beautiful prose and brilliant dialogue. I savoured every word! The premise, the plot, the pace, all expertly delivered.
- FMC: Tisaanah is perfection, absolutely everything I want from a main female character, she's strong, resilient, funny and hellbent on her cause.
- Max: God-tier boyfriend, there are no words to describe how much I love him and how invested I am in this relationship. 10 stars
- The development of the relationship/ the romance: You know, I actually envy you for not having read this yet. I will say nothing as I don't want to spoil it for you, but I will just say, I have read hundreds of romantasy books, this must be one of my top 3 favourite couples
- Zeryth: One of the most hated, most perfect villain.

A huge thank you to Carissa, Pan MacMillan and NetGalley for my review copy, all opinions are my own.

I have genuinely enjoyed every single second of this book and diving straight into no2!
