So, I Met This Guy . . .

Well, isn’t that how every love story starts? But how does it end – a happily ever after? Or with the discovery that the supposed love-of-your-life has stolen your life savings and your home, trashed your heart and demolished your self-esteem?

Maggie is barely fifty years-old, and she's not one to give up on herself. So when she meets Flick, a young reporter who realizes this story could be the big break she’s been looking for, they set off to catch him as he goes on the run across Europe. After all, she’s got nothing left to lose, right?

But as the pair embark on the road trip of their lives, unexpected twists, hidden secrets and hard truths are revealed. And as an unlikely friendship begins to blossom, they realize it’s not just about finding the guy, it’s about finding themselves . . .

From the author of the mega bestseller Confessions of a Forty-Something F##k Up comes another laugh-out-loud novel full of wit, wisdom . . . and women who have had ENOUGH.

So, I Met This Guy… by Alexandra Potter is funny, honest, and sneakily insightful in that “I came for the rom-com and stayed for the emotional depth” kind of way. It’s warm, witty, and refreshingly self-aware, making it an absolute joy to read.

The voice of this book is its superpower. It feels like listening to a brutally honest friend who’s equal parts charming and chaotic, telling you everything over coffee. Alexandra Potter perfectly captures the messiness of modern dating without tipping into cynicism, and there’s a lot of humour in the awkwardness, the missteps, and the expectations we put on ourselves and other people.

What really stood out is how grounded it feels. Beneath the humour and romance, there’s a thoughtful exploration of self-worth, timing, and what it actually means to want love versus needing it. The characters feel real, flawed, and easy to root for, and the emotional beats land without ever feeling heavy-handed.

This is the kind of book you fly through, laugh out loud at, and then quietly think about once you’re done. If you’re a fan of smart romantic fiction that balances heart, humour, and honesty, So, I Met This Guy… absolutely delivers. Huge thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. A confident, feel-good five stars. 💕📚✨
