Description
The spring of 1944, D-Day approaches, but will the Allies be successful? To swing the odds in their favor, Renard, the recalcitrant Jesuit leader of a hardened Resistance band, is thrown into an uninvited, chaotic working relationship with one of Churchill's notorious special agents, a woman code-named Crow. A young boy-shy, courageous Martin, whose father supports the occupying Reich and not a free France-soon becomes an unlikely ally to both agent and Resister.
We Chose Resistance takes readers into the heart of rural France during wartime, where a courageous and poorly armed volunteer "army" stubbornly defies the occupying enemy each day to win back France. But victory and betrayal go hand in hand, and a price will be paid. Friendships will realign, and long-held beliefs will be thrown aside. Vive la Rèsistance.

A Note From the Publisher
Margie Bucheit is a journalist by training and an avid history enthusiast who splits her time between New England and a central region of France known as La Sologne, once a vibrant hub of Resistance activity in World War Two. The author spent five years digging into historical commentary and anecdotal stories about French citizens who voluntarily joined these notorious World War Two Resistance bands. Her efforts brought to light many unrecognized actions that proved key to Allied success on D-Day. The author has written for local New England newspapers and magazines, educational institutions, business organizations, and nonprofits. Her past articles have won awards with the New England Newspaper and Press Association. We Chose Resistance is her first work of fiction.

I enjoyed reading this book. It felt like I was getting to know each of the characters as real people. World War 2 brought with it great hardships and these was especially true for those living within occupied Europe. France was a divided country and while this is mentioned in this book, the main part of the book centres on the area south of Orleans where the marquis (French Resistance) fought and died to save their country and its people from the Occupying forces. It is also a story of friendship, heartache, bravery and courage for those who risked everything.
Right at the centre of this story is "the mouse", a young boy who bravely contributes to the cause despite his Father being a collaborator. He and his friends risk much for free France.
If you can overlook some of the errors then it is a fun read.
