Description

'The kind of romance that feels like settling down for a cosy chat with a good friend and leaves you smiling long after the final page' Cathy Bramley

The new heartwarming romance from the beloved #1 Sunday Times bestselling author KATIE FFORDE

She’s found her dream home but can she make her dreams a reality?

Hattie finds other people their dream homes for a living.

Surely she, of all people, has the connections and the knowledge to find her own forever home? Instead, she baffles those closest to her by choosing to pack up and move every few months from one housesitting job to the next.

Of course, that’s because she knows where she wants to live. It’s a beautiful house owned by a lovely old woman who’d simply love for Hattie to have it.

But nothing is ever that simple.

There’s Clive who refuses to listen to his great-aunt’s wishes about her house. There’s Luke, Hattie’s oldest friend, who just wants to see her happy. And there’s Hattie herself. It might take a difficult client, an awkward teenager and a couple of dogs to help her see what really makes a house a home.

I have always loved Katie Ffordes books and think a cottage in the country has to be my new favourite!
This book is totally enchanting, wholesome, cosy and has a real feel good factor to it, I so enjoyed the wonderfully diverse characters, the picturesque setting, the sense of community and friendship and the overall joy the book brought!
Hattie the main character is a house hunter who always goes the extra mile for her clients finding their dream homes for them, despite her job Hattie has no permanent fixed abode of her own but plenty of friends who are willing to help her out as needed.
Throughout the book we follow Hattie as her circumstances change, her relationships with family and friends evolve and her quest to find the perfect home for herself
Such a feel good read that i would highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for this early read

Katie Fforde’s *A Cottage in the Country* is a heartwarming and utterly charming romance that feels like a comforting chat with a dear friend—perfect for readers seeking feel-good escapism. This 5-star novel blends friendship, love, and the delight of small-town life with Fforde’s signature warmth and humor.

The story follows Hattie, a professional who helps others find their dream homes but struggles to find her own place in the world. Her journey takes her from housesitting job to job, until she sets her sights on a beautiful home owned by a sweet, generous older woman. But getting her dream home isn’t as simple as it seems—obstacles appear in the form of Clive, who resists his great-aunt’s wishes, a difficult client, a tricky teenager, and, of course, the tug of her own heart.

Fforde shines in creating relatable, multidimensional characters. Hattie’s optimism and determination, combined with her interactions with quirky neighbors, loyal friends, and the occasional canine companion, make the story feel alive and cozy. The romance is gentle, believable, and perfectly balanced with the small-town drama and humorous mishaps.

The novel is also a love letter to home and community. Fforde’s descriptions of houses, villages, and gardens are vivid, making readers feel as though they could step right into Hattie’s world. Each page is infused with warmth, laughter, and tender moments, creating a read that lingers in your heart long after the final page.

Overall, *A Cottage in the Country* is a 5-star delight: a perfectly paced, uplifting, and thoroughly escapist romance. Fans of Cathy Bramley, Lucy Diamond, and classic cozy contemporary romance will adore it.
