Rather a good read, although the ending was a bit predictable, I did enjoy the journey. A bit different than the usual and I like the fact that it was set well within the period. I also like the fact that it did not run along the same lines as the heroine is treated like a idiot trying to muscle into to the police investigation but look on as someone worth listening too. Will read more from this author

Killing at the Carnival is the first book in the Cassie Pengear mystery series. This is an unique mystery, which takes place at a carnival. I enjoyed this book it was a quick and easy read. The characters are unique, and I especially likes Cassie.

I really enjoyed this novel. There were quite a few things that fell flat however. There was little to no steampunk feel, mostly some non-period vehicles, there was very, very little connection with the characters, and, though this is the first book in the series, there was a whole other mystery that Cassie had solved before that introduced her to all the characters; so I felt a little left behind.
With that said I still enjoyed this quirky story. I was hoping for a little more substance though.
