I've always been a fan of Doctor Who, and I believe that he is a positive role model for children and young adults. Not only are the Doctor Who adventures thrilling, they demonstrate that serious problems can be solved with ingenuity rather than violence. Death Riders targets younger readers, but can be enjoyed by fans of any age.
In Death Riders, the Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive on the mining asteroid of Stanalan in time to attend the Galactic Fair. It is a spectacle filled with games, contests, entertainment, and rides, particularly the Death Ride - the fair's most popular attraction. But amidst the smiles and laughter, death lurks. Several mining engineers have been found dead in tunnels declared off-limits, their bodies torn by teeth and claws.
Justin Richards does an excellent job portraying the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith), Amy and Rory. The plot moves quickly with a structure much like an episode, but there is less tension. There is nothing parents should find objectionable.
4/5 (considering the target audience)
