Description
Lily has spent her whole life not knowing the truth.
Now, one island will change everything.
When she was four years old, Lily's mother, Penny, walked out the family home and never returned. Growing up, Lily tried to block out the pain of betrayal. But years later, when Lily learns her mum's family used to own a holiday home on Osea Island, she can't resist booking a last-minute trip, hoping to finally find a connection to her mother.
But Osea is no ordinary place. Tidal and remote, it keeps its secrets close.
As Lily begins to peel back layers of the past, she uncovers a web of silence, betrayal, and pain stretching back twenty-five years. The island holds the truth of what really happened to Penny and why she never made it back home.
But some secrets aren't buried in the past. Nor are they still on the island. Some are closer than Lily ever imagined.

This is a gripping psychological crime thriller that pulls you in right away with its twisty dual timeline and family secrets.
The story follows Lily as she digs into the mystery of her mother's disappearance from years ago.
It is set against a remote island backdrop and has real atmosphere and the tension. rises brilliantly.
it is a fast pacy read and the revelations took me by surprise ,
The plot is layered and I could not put this down. it was a one sit read for me

I have always been slightly fascinated by books about twins, so was drawn to this, and I wasn't disappointed.
Lily is very naïve, and we gradually learn why. Alongside her story, we learn about her mother Penny, and her twin Rosie. This psychological thriller blossoms like a flower as the petals bloom. There are deaths, twists and lies galore, as Lily gradually begins to remember her early life as she tries to try to track down what happened to her mother. Who is lying to her? Who can she trust? Will there be a happy ending for anyone in Osea?
I really enjoyed this, so great thanks to Sarah Hornsley, the publishers and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review..

this is one of those reads that pulls you in and pick pick picks it way in so you feel things, feel the book but cant quite point point how its done it, lol. but i guess that the beauty of what great authors can do with great reads.
i felt for Lily from the off. i was of course immediately thinking how it must be for any child to lose their mother in the way she did. and how you would forever hold onto her, or forever need to find out more if you could. how that loss and more than that the unmet answers to just what happened must ripple and shape your whole core being.
so for Lily to be so determined i felt was very brave indeed. and you can see why she would be needing to go to Osea Island which could be her last connection to her mum.
that little unsettled ripple on the front of the book through the title sets the total brilliant tone of the place Osea itself feels when you get there. there, right there is your building atmosphere. and it makes the tone of the story a whole different feeling. this is the genius of authors. no this isnt some spring day and a woman going to a field of daises and a cosy community, bustling to get to know her where her mother lived once. no no this is a verrrrry different places which brings a verrrrry different set of feelings.
and so when Lily dig deeper you fear and then know that whats to come is silences and secrets. and perhaps pain.
the tension and the compelling nature of this book comes so much from the emotional build it all feels like its diving into. the suspense is not just finding out what happened its about what this could make Lily and us readers feel when we get those answers, if we get them.
i want to keep gabbling but i know i shall then have to give the moments away. and they are worthy of coming to it new and fresh as Sarah lays it out for us.
i really really enjoyed this read. it felt deeper than a thriller and they for me are my favourite ones. those that hit deeper, go further into our minds and emotions are always the best ones for me. this was cleverly done but never tried to over do itself or become something it wasn't just for the sake of it. i really appreciate that. sometimes books can just be good for being themselves and not for how many tropes or tick boxes some feel the need to push in to the pages which then make it feel clunky.
