Description

Sheriff's daughter Harley Tatum hates injustice, as it hits particularly close to home. Her trauma-riddled past made her vow never to return to Copper Mountain, where she lost her family and was abandoned by the man she loved. But when she receives a call that the drug dealer responsible for so much of her pain is at large, she decides to return to Alaska for one final chance at justice.

The last person Jericho Bowie expected to see in Copper Mountain is the woman he abandoned years ago. When Harley needs his heroic avalanche dog, Orlando, to track down a drug lord, Jericho realizes he has a chance to redeem his mistakes. As they navigate the treacherous Alaskan mountains, tentative feelings grow yet again, but their mission quickly turns defensive as the hunted becomes the hunter, and only courage, trust, and a loyal K9 can lead them home alive.

Bestselling and award-winning author Susan May Warren packs action, adventure, and heart-pounding suspense into her newest K9 novel set in the rugged wilderness of Alaska.

“Sometimes all we need is someone to remind us who we are.”

This Alaskan set second-chance romantic suspense has all the feels!

It’s centered around 1 John 4:18 and features Harley Tatum and Jericho Bowie, once childhood sweethearts, who learn that perfect love casts out fear.

Harley is a headstrong and independent, resourceful P.I. in Juneau and doesn’t believe in showing her vulnerability. For her, true strength means going it alone. She hasn’t had an option since being orphaned and she’s lived believing that nobody’s got her back, so she needs to rely on herself and her training.

Jericho and his K-9, a Bernedoodle named Orlando, arrive home to Copper Creek after reaching the ‘end of the road’. Jericho allowed his need for control to come between him and Harley, and when he didn’t think he could live out their childhood dreams, he ran away. Can he redeem this mistake? Has too much time passed?

I was captivated by their journey back to each other as they learned to trust and show their vulnerability. I loved the reminder that we need to confront our past wounds so that we can find the courage to trust. What a beautiful redemption arc!

I loved, loved, loved getting to touch base with characters from Sky King Ranch. Warren is so wonderful at building connections between her series - no character is forgotten.

I’ll remember this book for the powerful reminder that sometimes second chances mean going through the darkness, but if we’re willing for it, there’s more than enough light, hope, and love waiting for us on the other side of the experience.

“The remedy isn’t to fix the old . . . it’s to accept the new. To see things as God sees—through the eyes of grace and love. That’s what a new heart does.”

No matter how many books by Susan May Warren I read, the author never fails to amaze me with her talent for writing fast-paced, adrenaline-infused stories packed with fantastic characters, wisdom from hard-fought faith, and tender romance. I particularly enjoyed the K-9s in this series and loved Orlando in this book. Jericho was a wonderful SMW hero, full of regrets, hurts and pride but finally arriving at the place of humility, surrender, and peace. Harley was a spitfire with her impulsive but keen detective instinct, intelligence and tenacity. Their second chance romance was sweet and just right. I loved traveling down memory lane with them and soaking in the warmth and happiness before things imploded.
The storyline continues to chase down the Sorros family and this book shows that perhaps the villainous family is involved in more crimes than anyone suspected. The overarching story arc is not finished yet so I’m looking forward to the next book. I really loved getting to know the Bowie brothers better and am hoping for a book with Hudson and Malachi as the main characters.

If you're looking for a calm, no stakes romance read... well, this one isn't it. But if you're looking for an adventurous read with suspense that will have you unable to look away, Susan May Warren will always deliver on that front, and this one was no exception! Right from the start, I found myself drawn into Jericho and Harley's story. I will always love a good second chance romance, and there's nothing like searching for a fugitive to bring a couple back together, right? I enjoyed that romance between these two, but it was definitely the action and suspense that kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next... I couldn't get enough. And those twists and turns... let's just say there were definitely some that I absolutely did not see coming. With the blend of suspense, romance, family drama and faith elements, there was much to love in this story. If you love Christian romantic suspense and second chance romance, this is one not to be missed.

Scent of Hope is the second book in the Call of the Wild series, and while you may be able to enjoy as a standalone, I do recommend the first book as well.

“Sometimes all we need is someone to remind us who we are.”
Loved this quote from Harley. She's a wise lady and I love her quote to Jericho.
My favorite book from Susan May Warren so far.
Fast paced action all the way through. I grew to love Harley, Winter, Harley, Torfu. Orlando and the rest of the crew.
I kept rooting for them too. They kept me on the edge of my seat biting my nails in some parts. Others well.......those kisses? "Sigh" y'all know what I mean.
I loved the dog's name Orlando lol. Too cute. He's a pretty cool dog all in all.
I really enjoyed the setting! The description was so vivid that I felt like I was there!
I finished this book in one evening it was so good.
I've always said there's no place like home. But I also feel that it's where the people you love that make it home too.
This story will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck wow! Love it!
5 stars for keeping my interest all the way through.
