Sent on a desperate mission by the elders of Hares End, Eramus travels to the far reaches of the continent in search of the food needed to keep his small village alive until the next harvest. His deceased wife and a mysterious woman repeatedly appear in his dreams, but what could their messages mean? On the road, he is pursued by wolves and ghoulish creatures, meets new and unusual companions, and discovers something he thought was lost forever. But when a malevolent foe appears on the horizon, they threaten to tear his hopes, dreams, and world apart.

Eramus is a common man who was born, raised, and living in a small village that he never had a reason or desire to leave. When a desperate search for food to save Hares End compels him to take a dangerous journey, he could never have imagined the perils of the path that lies ahead. After cheating death, he meets brash Northmen, a princess and her guard, and mystical women from a strange culture while experiencing a vast world outside of Hares End.

Not content to return to his meager life farming, Eramus embarks on a new path for his life while lamenting the one who got away. His attraction to Lewatollma is strong, but their love is strictly forbidden in her mysterious culture. When their chance-second meeting is interrupted by a grave new threat from the south, both will face dire consequences for their actions.

Can a worldly Eramus ever readjust to the bland life he once led, or is the thirst for adventure, learning, and love a siren song that will lead to his undoing? Will he embark on a journey that will change the course of his life forever, or is he always destined to return home and settle for being Eramus of Hares End?
