Description
Andy Lang is about to present the closing arguments for the most important case of his life. Without knowing it, he narrowly escaped death on the way to court. That night the Assistant District Attorney is found dead and he is the prime suspect. Before he can defend himself, he is shot in a motel room and pronounced dead twice on the way to the hospital.
Andy finds himself in a hospital bed on the wrong side of the legal system, with only his comatose mind to prove his innocence. This is Andy's story as told by Andy. Incapacitated, he is fighting to survive, to prove his innocence and protect the life of his witness. Along the way, he uncovers his family history and finds some unexpected help on his journey.
While I Was Dead is a story that defies categorization. It is a crime story, a story of mythology, a love story, a story about a family history, a psychological thriller... in short, you have to read it to understand it. You will be thrown by the twists the plot takes and you will be moved by the story's conclusion.
This genre-bending story will be a favourite of readers that appreciate tales of love, complex relationships, messy family dynamics, folklore and mythology.

So when starting this book, I was pretty sure I knew what to expect.....A crime story with a murder.....how wrong I was! This took a twist I was not expecting, and the characters that came with that twist were lovely. Their personality quirks came across really well on paper, and I was able to visualise exactly what they might sound and look like perfectly. This book kept me guessing right until the end, and the pace was perfect. Felt like I was feeling every bit of anxiety and confusion Andy felt at times, and the last 20% of the book I couldn't get through fast enough. The writing style on occasion did have me checking who was talking at times, but nothing major and as this is a book from NetGalley I'm aware that final checks have yet to be made possibly. In all I enjoyed the pacing, the story and the little characters immensely.
