Description
Sunday Times bestselling author Juliette Cross returns with a scorching dark romantasy in her The Fire That Binds trilogy. In an alternate Ancient Rome, a powerful witch can control men with one taste of their blood – and her fate will collide with a fierce, rebellious dragon.
A spellbinding gift . . .
A plea answered by the gods . . .
An unforgiving world where dragons rule Rome.
Lela Bihari’s village was invaded on her wedding night, her betrothed murdered right in front of her. While her sisters were either dragged away or escaped, Lela was sold to Valerius, a consul of Rome.
When she tried to kill Valerius her first night as his slave, her bloodsinger gift manifested . . . and she was punished for it. Now she’s paraded in front of the other senators for their amusement.
But the dragon Trajan Tiberius, newly elected tribune to the senate, is different. He has no love for the brutality around him. When he frees Lela from enslavement and hides her, Lela is set on a path of vengeance, and using her gift puts her in more danger than ever before.
Now trapped inside the walls of Rome while deathriders circle the skies, how can she possibly trust a Roman dragon? Especially when it is clear Trajan has ulterior schemes of his own? As her powers grow stronger, danger draws closer, and Lela realizes it isn’t just her life at stake, but also her heart.
Discover the second deliciously dark tale of forbidden romance in the Fire That Binds trilogy, following Firebird. Perfect for fans of Fourth Wing.
Bloodsinger is an adult romantasy novel that contains dark themes, including slavery in Ancient Rome and self-injury, which may be uncomfortable for some readers.

After enjoying book 1 I was looking forward to this!
Similar to book one, we follow another slave called Lela, a powerful witch with blood magic powers, which are suppressed by her master. After she kills her master one night, she is found and rescued by our mmc Trajan, a friend of Julian from book one, who is also in on the plans to overthrow Caesar in order to make a better life for the people of Rome. I enjoyed the storyline from book one and I thought it fun that we carried it on in this book but from a different couples perspective.
This was fast paced and fun, it has dark themes but I thought these were handled well and the I liked the Roman Empire setting and the world building was done well. The romance was a bit insta love, but I didn’t mind it and it was kind of cute. I don’t think I liked this characters quite as much as Julian and Malina, but they were still likeable enough that I was rooting for them.
If you enjoyed book one then you won’t be disappointed with book two.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

In this book we follow Trajan and Lela and what should I say? I love this book even more than the first. (Dual POV)
I got really interested in Trajan in the first book already. Now seeing him as the MMC makes me really happy. He is such a walking green flag as a person and as a love interest. I can not get enough of him. He is still behind the cause they all have and gives everything he has got.
I was soo surprised to see that the first chapter was already named „Lela“. I was sooo happy to instantly get to know that she was still alive. I really enjoy her magic because it is a special one that I have not read of in a book so far.
She is fierce, loyal and caring. All traits I really love to see in an FMC.
Towards the end there was one special scene that really made me cry. It was just perfect.
Perfect part two in the series!!
I absolutely loved Firebird so I was so excited for Bloodsinger and it did not disappoint! I'm always such a fan of Juliette Cross's stories - they're always gripping, easy to read, have great characters and a good amount of spice.
This series is a bit darker and heavier than some of her others because of the Roman backdrop, so be mindful of trigger warnings, but I really enjoyed the continuation of the Fire that Binds series.
I was so excited for Trajan and Lela's story, especially after the hints and teases in Firebird - another thing I love that Juliette Cross does with her interconnected series. Their story picks up where we left off in Firebird and manages to give us more closure for Malina and Julian without it being about them. It was interesting to see more of the Roman politics, giving us lots of political intrigue whilst not being too heavy and still being very much a romantasy story. I also find the dragon lore interesting, particularly the element of 'half skins' which is not something I've personally come across in the dragon shifter books I've read before. I'm excited to hopefully see even more of that in the next book! Lena was a great FMC and I really liked how strong of a character she was, despite the horrors she'd faced in her captivity. I really enjoyed seeing her story develop with Trajan.
I am so excited for the next book, especially after the teasing we got at the end - I can't wait to get to know the characters for this last one, especially as they seem quite different from our four main characters so far, who are arguably quite similar in profession and experiences. As always, thank you Juliette Cross and I can't wait for more!

Bloodsinger completely swept me away. It was so great to come back to the world of Firebird, which I loved, and to have two new MC that the story focuses on.
Lela is a fierce and vulnerable heroine and you don’t have a choice but root for her. To follow her journey, and see her grow and overcome her struggle was awesome. Her relationship with Trajan is so cute - maybe a little bit too insta love for me, but honestly I still loved it.
The world-building is still great, the political intrigues make it so interesting and it was fast paced in a “could not let this book down” kind of way. I’m officially a Juliette Cross fan!
