Description
Ellie never stopped loving Jackson. She’s just learned how to live without him.
Seventeen years after the summer that shattered everything, Ellie has built a life she can control. She runs The Beach House Café on the Dorset coast, keeps her world small, and tells herself she’s fine. Love, motherhood, and the future she once imagined all feel impossibly out of reach, buried beneath years of guilt.
Then Jackson walks back into her life.
He’s not the lanky schoolboy she remembers. He’s all grown up now with broader shoulders and striking hazel eyes shot through with gold, but he has that smile that makes her forget to breathe. Despite having every reason to hate her for what she did, he still looks at her like she’s the only person in the room.
The connection between them is impossible to ignore. As old feelings resurface, so does the secret Ellie’s been hiding since they were teenagers – a secret that sent their lives spiralling in opposite directions.
Now Ellie must decide whether she’s brave enough to risk everything for the man she never stopped loving.
Sometimes love isn’t about getting a second chance. It’s about finding the courage to take it.

This beautiful debut is as complex and compelling as it is heartwarming and uplifting.
The Summer That Changed us is a quietly considered novel, emotional and page-turning, but not overly dramatic with its romance tropes, instead it feels true to life and 'real' rather than sickly sweet. It's romance but in the real world.
Billie Swann tugs at the heart-strings as she tackles some really tough themes but she does so with heart, compassion and a true delicate
touch. It's a novel that puts romance at the heart of the story, but doesn't shy away from the real world issues so many of us face.
Despite Ellie feeling so wrapped up in her past mistakes, this story feels less about the trauma of a past and more about her finding a way to allow
herself to love again. Jackson makes the perfect leading man and with so many intricately drawn characters, I can't wait to see who the author choses to focus on for book two in the series.
A new author - but one I will most certainly be reading more of.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It had an intriguing story, it continued moving without any lulls, and I stayed interested in it the entire time. I loved the back and forth in timelines and thought it really moved the story. I found the FMC difficult to root for as she was a bit insufferable at times,. Overall, this book was a great read and I would definitely recommend picking it up!
Wow~ What a darling book~ I could not get over how much this gripped at my heart for weeks after I finished. Wonderfully done!
An addictive dual time line, a story to break and then mend and melt your heart and those gorgeous chapter headings! Add this to your list of must reads!
17 years ago, at just 15 years old, Ellie and Jackson were everything to eachother, until the universe stepped in to turn their worlds upside down. 17 years later, childhood friend Reeni is still encouraging Ellie to face up to her past and confront what holds her back. But how can you do that when your memory of events is not the same as everybody else's and nobody even knows how you think the past happened?
Meet Ellie, running The Beach House cafe in Dorset, living her life with childhood friend Reeni close by, but somehow, life has never quite felt complete. As things start to unravel while Ellie isn't as sure of her future as she may have once been, the past reappears and throws her life into turmoil.
I was gripped from the start, reading this beautifully crafted story, with chapters alternating between the emotionally charged past and the equally emotive present day.
I felt there were some beautiful characters who you warmed to immediately and some who you would rather kept walking along the beach! At first, I found Ellie a little hard to warm to but as her story unfolded, that quickly changed and I took her into my heart.
This book tackles some hard situations, explores friendships, relationships and family bonds in the most delicate way. There are times your emotions will go through all the bumps in the road, but then it also has the power to soothe you.
One thing's for sure, this is a story that will capture your heart and along the way, it will bring you to tears, fill you with rage and also cause smiles of joy.
I do love a book that stays with you long after the last page (and one you can talk about to whoever will listen!)
An easy 5 stars from me!
Out 31st March, make sure to get a copy, you won't be disappointed!
I really enjoyed reading this book! I loved the flashback scenes, and Jackson's love for Ellie. You could really tell how much he loved her, i felt every emotion. And thats really good writing!
The heartbreak of their past, really hit me. Especially when they talked about it in the present. When they first shared what they felt about everything back then. Also, the vulnerability of the MMC was amazing. I know reading about a man who's not scared of showing his emotions, and not scared of crying.
Also, i loved Sophie as a character! amazing woman.
