such a wonderful book that took me a lot deeper than i thought it would both in heart and emotional levels to the books and the woman we get to meet. woman i very quickly felt strongly for as i got to know them. the woman interweave perfectly amongst the story and i found myself connecting to many things about them and what they were going through even though it was years ago. sad how time really doesn't always move on for some people in this world, or should i say for some(one gender)ugh.
this is called the Queens Coronation because it follows that period and event in time. all woman are preparing for it in their own way and this is when we meet them.
Caroline is married to someone who no one would wish she was with. she can only dream of a different life for herself. but does it have to be a dream?
Lucy has spark and dreams of her own. sadly she thinks(or maybe rightly) she think this might harbour on finding the right men to show her find her the way to make them come true.
Miranda is a journalist. stuck in a mans world and all that feels against her in life and especially in work. she has to work harder to fit, to succeed or even stay in her job. that means she is desperate, always in urgent need to find the next scoop. could this be the time she finds the big story.
the Queen might be a woman finding her throne. but that doesn't mean the world is willing to let our woman stand tall on their own.
this book was just brilliant. i was completely taken in by it and for the whole read it was like being wrapped in its world. i could picture the time, places and people. i could feel so much for the woman. and so much not just because i felt i got to know them but also of the things just being a woman made them face to live, work, and even be safe and alive.
i was rooting with a fierce heart for them all to be ok and find a better future. or even just a better present to be fair. and knowing history and knowing truths i also knew this might not always be the case which added more feeling to the read.
i love how all the woman were very different. they all had the flaws and strengths and they all have their situations and i was rooting for all of them. more than once i wanted to swoop in and help them.
i actually loved this book. im not used to historical fiction of this period and really enjoyed it. the genre is one my favourites and so finding a good books within that feels even more special.

London, 1953 and the excitement is building ahead of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, nowhere more so than at Buckingham Palace.
There, 3 very different women meet and become friends.
Caroline Brimstone, the Queens Assistant Dresser, trapped in a loveless marriage, but convinced that it is all she deserves. Lucy Jones, Junior Wardrobe Assistant, has arrived in London from Cornwall and wants nothing more than to be a singer and is desperately hoping to meet someone who can help her with her dream. And Miranda Miller. An American Journalist, working undercover, hoping to find enough gossip and scandal to keep her job at a New York paper.
As the Coronation draws closer, each of the women begin to take stock of their lives.
If the young Queen Elizabeth can make her mark in a male dominated world, maybe they can also break free from the ties that bind them to unhappy lives.
A story of unlikely friendships, love and following your dreams.
I love Jennifer Ryan’s books. How she takes ordinary women, and weaves tales of friendship and love against the odds. How she shows how strong women can be. They are always a treat to read and this was no exception.

I really enjoyed this one, my first read by Jennifer Ryan. Having no preconceptions, I very quickly became involved in the storyline and the individual characters. Each chapter is related to one of the main characters, all women and all working at Buckingham Palaces in the run up to Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. There is Caroline, the assistant Queen’s dresser. Mirander, helping with the organising of the procession but actually an u dercover reporter from New York, there to report back secret details from the palace. Lucy works in the Queen’s wardrobe and has just arrived from Cornwall but wants to become a famous singer. Their lives intertwined, and they become great friends. They all have interesting and gripping personal stories. The main message is women uniting to find their places in a male-dominated 1950’s world. It is an endearing, heartwarming, and very positive novel, showing how these very diverse women overcome their difficulties and become stronger in their unity and friendships. Definitely a great read.
This was a great read with each chapter related to one of the three characters.First we have Caroline the Queens assistant dresser who married Frank over a decade ago as she was pregnant but not with his child. Then we have Miranda a journalist in New York who is sent to England to get stories about the up and coming Coronation .Miranda is staying with her Aunt Betty who works at the palace and gets her a job helping organise the procession ,not knowing that Miranda is working undercover .Finally we have Lucy who has come from Cornwall to work as a wardrobe assistant but really want to go on the stage and be a singer. We are taken on a journey with these three women helping to make a difference in their life.Thank you to Netgalley and Pan MacMillan.
