Lucy Foley knows what she is doing, and she needs to continue writing it. This Agatha Christie-universe story was just what I needed. As a reader who has read all of Agatha Christie's novels growing up, this book was a JOY to experience. I loved it. I loved being taken by surprise, and I loved the build up. This one just showed me how good Foley can write, and I really, really want more.
Thank you to NetGally and the publisher for this gem of a book, and for letting me give my feedback.
Lucy Foley’s take on Miss Marple is honestly such a fun surprise! She really gets the character, capturing that quiet, razor‑sharp way Marple watches everything without ever pushing her too far out of character to lure in a new audience. It genuinely feels like revisiting an old friend and one I grew up with thanks to my mum. The rest of the cast brings plenty of vibrance too making up a wonderful cast for Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel. Diana, especially, ends up carrying a lot of the early story, and she’s a great anchor while Marple hangs back and observes.
The plot has that classic cosy‑crime setup that just works. A glamorous Alpine hotel, a snowstorm, a bunch of guests with secrets, and then – SURPRISE - a crime that throws everything into chaos. Lucy Foley’s structure keeps things moving and the pace incredibly sharp. The twists are clever and there are definitely moments that catch you off guard and those that don’t are those crime readers want to see so are still fantastic. The atmosphere is brilliant and the whole trapped at the scene vibe gives the mystery a brilliant tension!
Lucy Foley’s writing is where her own style really shines. It’s ridiculously readable. You can absolutely imagine someone devouring this on the train or sneaking chapters at work because they have to know what happens next! I made the most of the Easter bank holiday sunshine and read it in one sitting. She adds a bit more emotional depth and a few cheeky moments you’d never find in Christie, but it never feels out of place. It’s not trying to mimic Christie and that’s what makes it work. It feels like a respectful ode rather than a cheap imitation.
All in all, this feels like a great pick for both die‑hard Christie fans and readers who just want a gripping mystery to curl up with this autumn. If you love Miss Marple, you’ll appreciate how true Lucy Foley stays to her spirit, and if you’re new to cosy crime, this is such an easy, engaging place to start (and the perfect place to fall down the Christie rabbit hole!). If this is where Lucy Foley picks up with Marple, it’s definitely left me excited to see what Foley does next!

An excellent new story and I could see Joan Hickson every time Miss Marple was mentioned. A real olde-worlde vibe and a great cast of characters, I enjoyed every page including all the red herrings and Jane Marple's wonderful deductions. A huge "well done" to Lucy Foley and a huge thank you for allowing me to enjoy my favourite Christie character again.
4.5* Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel - Lucy Foley. A superb new Marple tale, 50 years after her last outing at Christie’s hand.
A grandiose MP and his society wife, a Hollywood starlet, a host of the well-heeled, Mrs Bantry and her friend Miss Marple; assemble at the top of a Swiss mountain in a luxurious resort. Some are there for the skiing, others for the spa and a couple for the toboggan run. Yes others are there for much more nefarious reasons, to double-cross, to claim what they think belongs to them and potentially to get their revenge.
It’s only a matter of time before one of the guests meets a grisly demise and the guests find themselves stranded. Can the killer be found before more bodies pile up.
Wow Lucy Foley. What a fantastic addition to the ‘after Agatha’ cannon. The characters and setting are everything the great woman would have contrived and the plot has more twists and turns than the Cresta Run. In places a little slow, this is otherwise fantastic fun and a true love-letter to the Queen of Crime Fiction and one of her most loved characters. It will keep you guessing until the end as each red herring slowly fizzles out and the freezing mountain mist slowly clears.
A must read for everyone. A special immersive experience for fans of Christie and Marple. This is going to be a smash hit!

Thank you so much to Netgalley for giving me this free advance copy, and I’m writing this review honestly and without bias.
As a massive fan of Agatha Christie - Jane Marple especially - and a lover of all things Lucy Foley I was intrigued to see if the author could pull this off. And I have to say the master of the locked room and multiple POV has played an absolute blinder. The under use of Miss Marple and the fact none of it was from her point of view was a stroke of genius by the author. The atmosphere, characters and setting are very Christie-esque and the scenes are laid out in her formidable style, whilst still retaining the Foley touch. The plot itself is sharp, gripping and kept me riveted with an abundance of suspects. This is classic Christie done by classic Foley. Absolutely loved it!

A great mystery book set in Swiss mountains. Really enjoyed reading the different characters' perspectives. Miss Marple solves the case. An atmospheric read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

Lucy Foley has picked up the mantle of Agatha Christie and run with it. Miss Marple is in the Swiss alps with an array of characters an actress, politician & a Doctor to name a few. The Grand Alpine Hotel is the setting for the murder which takes place in the gondola heading to the summit of the mountain! Miss Marple as always overlooked, watches and waits. Lucy has certainly evoked the time period and has produced a very readable story.

Lucy Foley captures the essence of Jane Marple beautifully. It’s a delicate balance to honor the original tone while bringing a modern sharpness to the prose, but Foley nails it. The Grand Alpine Hotel is the perfect snowy, isolated setting for a classic mystery. It felt like catching up with an old friend over a cup of tea—with a side of murder, of course

1950.
Miss Marple and Mrs Bantry are on holiday at the Grand Alpine Hotel. But a restful time it certainly isn't.
One of the hotel guests gets into a cable car gondola, and is found dead at the top of the mountain.
With the hotel cut off, it's up to Miss Marple to unmask the killer - with multiple guests having a motive, and more than one corpse.
It's so lovely to spend time with our old friends again.
Oh wow, I can’t say enough about this one! It was so good! Literally had me guessing until the reveal I was truly captivated! It left me chilled to the bone this is a definite a must read don’t miss out!
It was an addictive thriller, a pulse racing mystery and rollercoaster of a plot now that I have finished this, l can finally get my breath back! This was just one of those books I couldn’t stop reading! I was reading it at work, on the train and making dinner I just had to know what was going to happen next!
It amazingly written and it really sucks you in from the start what an amazing book! This author has become an automatic request on Netgallery for me!

Oh this is very exciting for Agatha Christie fans. Lucy Foley has created a new Miss Marple novel, bringing the very best of Christie’s creation to the Swiss Alps, with a frisson of The Labours of Hercules. Jane and her long-time friend are holidaying at the Grand Alpine hotel, along with Dolly’s companion. It’s cold, it’s magical and there’s murder afoot. A guest enters a gondola alive, but is found dead at the top of the mountain – so who is the murderer? There’s the usual cast of suspects, created in a way that is intrinsically Lucy’s style, and Jane is soon looking at everything and dismissing nothing. She is simply wonderful and to have her back on the page is a thrill for Christie fans.
