Description

A queer, standalone, cozy mystery romance with tons of food cravings, tea-loving, and found family vibes.

Falcon Smoke never wanted the fame he's gained. He only ever wanted to help people, but it's hard to do right within a broken system. The cost of that same fame has forced Falcon to leave his family home and move into a small house he can only afford with the help of another young gent by the name of Keene.

Keene is warm and charming and fills their new home with the wonderful aromas of his delicious tea blends and the scrumptious meals he makes for his catering clients. But most of all, Keene makes Falcon feel safe and accepted.

Just as the two are getting ready for some well-deserved time off, their home is robbed. Involving the Enforcers means condemning the perpetrators to a lifetime of imprisonment and torture, so Falcon decides to solve the case on his own… or so he thinks. Keene refuses to be left out, and the two grow closer throughout the investigation.

As sparks of romance ignite between them, someone notifies the Enforcers of the crime, and Falcon will be forced to choose where he'll throw the considerable weight of his support.

This book was such a fun mystery, police procedural, romance, with great world building. I loved the feel of Sherlock Holmes the author evoked while still making this their own story. The characters were so well written and the author gave them compelling backstories that helped you understand why they are so willing to fight for good. The situations the characters find themselves in have comedic elements that move the story and romance along with proper amounts of yearning and miscommunication/failure to communicate. In the end, everything comes together wonderfully, of course.
The narrator did a wonderful job bringing this story and the many characters to life with great voice acting.

Falcon x Keene
This was a fluffy, steampunk, mm mystery romance. Having not read the prior books in this series, I agree that it works as a standalone. Falcon uses a cane occasionally after a pretty serious work injury. He does have some internalized ableist thoughts and seems to have grown up in an emotionally stunted environment. It’s apparent that Keene is the opposite. They do learn from each other, and it was nice to read about them doing regular day to day things while building trust. I would’ve loved a chapter more of their life post crime-solving.
-Class difference
-Sunshine x black cat vibes
-Only one bed
-K cooks for him
-First time
-“Darling”
