Description

Once Upon a Time…

When Jack lost her sister to the giant Galifron, she thought she would never see her again. Dead is dead, and being the sister left behind means carrying a lifetime of guilt, grief—and rage. So when a witch offers her a chance to raise her sister from the dead, Jack agrees to strike a bargain and sets off on an impossible quest.

Prince Quil of Mynos only wants to have fun and be free of his obligations, especially while traveling in the western kingdom of Daphnis. When he falls head over heels for the mysterious girl he meets on a rooftop, however, following his heart means following her on a quest to raise her sister from the dead. How else is he going to get her to fall for him, too?

But the quest goes horribly wrong, and Jack and Quil find themselves faced with consequences neither of them anticipated—and doomed to seek answers at the top of a towering, magical beanstalk. Some things, once broken, can’t easily be put back together, and fixing what they never meant to break will ask of each of them more than they ever imagined.

What lies at the top of the beanstalk just might teach them, in the end, what true love really is.

Advance Praise

“Hoyle’s adept use of language and imagery and her masterful storytelling will leave you not just entertained, but also emboldened to bravely love those around you as well.” —Lindsey Murphy, Story Warren

"Ever since I read Son of the Deep, I’ve kept up with each new fairytale retelling by author K. B. Hoyle. And every time, I’m reminded how much I love her stories. Each new book is better than the last. I loved the characters, the sweet romance, the quest in Daughter of Rage and Ruin. Sometimes the difficulties and trials our characters have to face are hard to read about. The cruelty of others is tragic. But isn’t that how it goes with fairytales? Our characters have to rise above their trials and conquer the monsters. Here you will find no morally grey heroes, but true honorable people, dedicated to doing what’s right and defeating evil, even at great cost to themselves. It moved me to tears.

This is a fairytale romance to remember. I will not hesitate to recommend this book and the entire series to adults and teenagers both who need some good old fashioned fairytales in their life." —Bookstagram Review
