Description

Puberty is tough. But try being Nitrogen.

Sixteen-year-old Noah Vale has just discovered something impossible:

• He is the living embodiment of the chemical element Nitrogen.

• His family run an intergalactic pizza business. From Cornwall.

• Noah can pass through walls and freeze things.

• One day he may even fly.

Which would be exciting if he had the faintest idea how any of it works.

Meanwhile Mother Nature and Dark Matter are in the middle of a catastrophic cosmic divorce.

And a chef has just been murdered by lightning on a completely clear day.

It’s a mystery Noah cannot ignore.

The deeper Noah digs, the clearer it becomes that this was never just a murder.

Because someone, somewhere, is trying to repossess the Earth.

And in Noah’s world, the laws of chemistry are about to become very personal.

As powerful forces move behind the scenes, Noah must figure out who he really is, the science behind his powers, and why dangerous enemies believe the fate of an entire planet depends on him.

And the next clue might kill him.

Quantum Pizza is the first Noah Vale Mystery, a fast-paced YA science-fiction adventure packed with clever science, sharp humour, and a mystery that stretches far beyond Earth.

Puberty is tough. But try being Nitrogen.

Sixteen-year-old Noah Vale has just discovered something impossible:

• He is the living embodiment of the chemical element Nitrogen.

This was a quirky and fun book - I didn't really know what to expect going in, and realising I do not remember a SINGLE thing from chemistry at school had me giggling. I honestly know so little but the story is charming and the characters carry the premise. The world building was done well, and interesting in a way that kept me hooked.
If you like science or know someone who does, it was a great little mystery with some fun little twists! Thanks for the ARC :)

4.5 stars!

I don't really know how to describe this book without spoiling things unless I use existing books as a vibe-quantifier, so I'll start this off by saying that Quantum Pizza is probably what would happen if you put Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians and Dungeon Crawler Carl into a blender, and then replaced the over-the-top adultness of DCC with several pizzas and an extra helping of highly entertaining nonsense.

It took me a few chapters to fully get into it, but that was mostly because I had to acclimate to the sheer amount of chaos present in the story, and because the writing style is quite different from the last several books I've read. I was fully invested in it by the end though; I had planned on splitting the last ~20% into a couple reading binges, but I read "one too many chapters" during the first binge and then couldn't put it down until I got to the end. Also, in a world where books in series always seem to end with devastating cliffhangers, I appreciate that this one wrapped itself up quite nicely (though obviously there are some clear plot threads to follow up on in the rest of the series). I can't wait to read more!

I will start with my great thanks to NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy.
I really enjoyed this book. I had no expectations going into reading it. Although I was hesitant at first, I found the story to be clever and charming. I loved the characters and although the premise is a bit odd, I found the story to be delightful. The writing is smart, the world building interesting enough to make me want to know what would happen next and the action exciting. I think this book would make a wonderful gift for any young reader, perhaps one who is scientifically inclined. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a cute mystery with a solid, scientific twist. I look forward to what comes next for young Noah Vale and friends.
