Description

Thomas Pitter is a twenty-two-year-old lawyer of English descent who was born in Colonial Jamaica. He supported the abolitionist movement in London as a university student. But now he finds himself lost, lonely, and friendless since inheriting his uncle's plantation, which has forced him to return home to fulfil his uncle's final wishes.

Thomas and Charlotte eventually have a child, but face ever more difficulties on the plantation as a couple and as parents. They must work together and rely on the support of the workers and Thomas’s family to ensure that everyone can escape the plantation in stages before it is too late.
