Description
Love, lattes, and world-ending drama - life just got a lot less cosy for Lydie, teenage daughter of Death. The YA romcom/fantasy obsession you didn't know you needed.
Lydie, the daughter of Death, a retired Rider of the Apocalypse, is obsessed with 'cosy'; cosy books, cosy summer job in the family café, cosy low-drama life.
But then secretive, attractive, and above all annoying, Kai, bursts into the café in a flurry of autumn leaves, with secrets that threaten to change everything.
Big, un-cosy things are coming for Lydie whether she likes it or not, and working with Kai might be the only way to protect her town. Provided she doesn't fall for him first ...

Oh I really loved this one.
Cosy vibes all round, despite the main character being deaths daughter!
An eclectic group of characters come together in a unique setting to make sure that their parents don't have the chance to destroy the world as we know it.
I loved the concept, with a balanced mix of humour, romance and a little bit of drama.
An all round feel-good tale that left me feeling completely satisfied.

A cosy fantasy romcom with sharp humour and chaotic characters? Yes please. I loved this! A little slow to begin with, with a writing style I didn't immediately like but this grew on me as I kept going. The characters and the concept is so unique it was enough to keep at it until I was locked in, then I flew through it. So much fun!!!! Two people just trying to get by oh and also save the world from their crazy parents? Inject it.
Everything I want from a YA romantic fantasy, quick read, sharp humour, chaotic energy and quirky imaginative settings...if you like these things too this book if perfect.

The Cafe at the End of the World by @helen_jcomerford was a cosy hug of a book with a side order of supernatural peril. Lydie loves nothing more than working in her family’s cafe, The Snug, where she knows and loves the regulars and serves delicious hot chocolate and baked goods. One day a strange boy enters her cafe and changes everything. He’s on a mission to find the owner of a horse he has seen in the road outside. The horse is her father’s, and her father is Death (now retired).
It’s a fun, romantic, and intriguing book. As a reader you know that you’re in safe hands. Nothing that horrible will happen and you can relax into a deeply satisfying story told well filled with characters that you genuinely care about.
Early on in the book a character states that ‘we always become our parents in the end’. Whether or not this is true is the main theme of the book. Can we choose who to become or is it inevitable that we grow into adults like our parents? What if your Dad was Death? Or Pandemic for that matter? It’s a coming of age story that wrestles with this question but it’s also about the power of altruistic kindness and service, community and inter -generational relationships.
Don’t read it without access to hot chocolate, tea & baked goods or your stomach will be grumbling at the descriptions of The Snug’s tasty treats!
I went into this book blindly, and only because the title sounded kind of fun and the blurb also caught my attention, but I didn't get so locked in, yet.
After a few chapters I really couldn't stop reading this book, the whole atmosphere is magical and wonderful, the characters are lovable and fun, and THE YEARNING??? I was obsessed, I still am, and I really wish I could just show up to the Snug and drink a good hot chocolate and eavesdrop on some offsprings and see them in action.
The story of this book had many twists, some of them I could guess, some of them I really couldn't, so it was a lovely change of scenery. I definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone who is looking for a cosy and fun read that will hug you like a warm blanket would. I cannot wait to see how the sequel continues.
Wonderful book!
This book absolutely grabbed me from the start. It has been a long time since I devoured a book so voraciously. I completed in 3 sittings and it was the first thing I reached for this morning. I just had to know how the story ended.
The characters were so loveable, I was absolutely rooting for them. I recognised them in my family and friends, which made the book feel really relatable. The romance plot line was nostalgic and beautifully written, it was slow burn but in the most exciting way. The setting felt like a warm hug, from a simpler time. The author filled the world with colour and the world building was immersive. The plot twists kept me absolutely hooked, I just didn't see them coming.
I finished the book so uplifted and not at all in the destination I expected. I cannot recommend enough and I can't wait to see what comes next.

Thank you to Bloomsbury Publishing Plc (UK & Anz) for gifting me this digital arc in exchange for my honest review.
Our girl Lydie is the daughter of Death, who is one of the retired riders of the Apocalypse. Lydie is excited for a summer of working and taking on more responsibility in her family’s cafe, The Snug, until our boy Kai stumbles into the cafe and her life. Things get a lot less cosy with World ending drama coming their way.
I went into this thinking, oh yeah… YA romance, snuggly cosy fantasy about a supernatural cafe, that will be lovely and relaxing, and oh my goodness yes but also oh my goodness no….. this book is so much more than that, it’s drama, depth, emotion, found family and friends, comedy, and evil villains that you will love to hate. I kicked my feet, screamed, yelled, cried, scream again and read so many quotes and paragraphs out to my husband.
A sweet grumpy/sunshine romance, supernatural cafe regulars and lattes, a door to the afterlife in the basement next to the milk fridge, and menacing tooth fairy’s with a love of toffee apples.
My favourite book of the year vibes are really tingling - Honestly put on your TBR now. This is the first book in a series, and I’m so happy for book 2.
