Fantastic read! Oh but my poor heart! Didn’t expect that to happen!! I don’t like sad books they stay with me for weeks! But this book wasn’t really sad until the end! It was such an interesting storyline that it was well worth reading! It had suspense, murder, mystery, murder, fantastic characters and some shocking moments! I highly recommend reading this book! It hurt my heart lol but such a great book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Susan has hit that very real part of life we call empty nesting. and alot of the rest of her life feel just a bit too much meh. life has moved on. has she? or has she not moved on enough? so when a trip away with friends takes her away from that home life and husband of decades she start to think whether its even a life she wants to go back to.
Ethan our other character is living on the same Island Susan has come away to. he works harder than hard, works two jobs infact to keep his family supported. and it doesn't sit well with him. especially not when he sees others around him seemingly living one he should surely deserve. you can feel even from just this first part of knowing him that there feels something off, something simmers there. i got a gut feeling as a reader. was i right?
we have two lives here. both crumbling and fraying in their own ways.
you can feel something is coming. you dont know what. and even then as we sit with it, learn more, read more you wonder whether you might be seeing what isnt there. that is the brilliance of Whelan's writing. its paced, never too slow but never to fast either. like a giant thriller teasing you, making sure you have all the proper story and feelings first but in the best way.
when everything comes together. when these people and their lives fall into one seamless read you can help but smile, be excited and just love. i couldn't stop reading. i couldn't believe and then i totally could believe how this all fit together. i of course didn't question Whelan but i also never thought of...of this! and haha this is why im not an author.

A tense and edge-of-your-seat thriller. What starts as a holiday with the girls ends up being a tragedy. I read this in two sittings and can't recommend this enough.. How it was written made me feel like i was in the cave with Susan during her last moments...... A must read
