Description

Spring has sprung, and the swords are out!

Anya Delemond is a princess clawing for a breath of freedom from her gilded life—and she thinks she's found it at the Melusine Manor Masquerade.

Roderick Bryson is a knight and nobleman who's heartbroken over the wolf-masked woman who ran after he told her his name.

Anya is that woman, but Roderick can never know—and now they're stuck commanding the crew of the Lupus Star together.

Their mission? Establish a new trade alliance, and obtain the mana stones desperately needed to cure the mysterious illness plaguing children in the small town of Balcott.

Somewhere between their clashing swords and quiet moments under the stars, their rivalry sparks into something more—forcing them to choose:

Duty...or heart?

"By the time I was finished, I found myself obsessed. I have laughed until my cheeks hurt and I have sobbed until my cheeks burned." - Kassandra Morgan on Goodreads

"Spar of Hearts has everything I want in a romantasy: a solid, engaging plot (yes, an actual plot!), delicious tension, well-earned steam, meaningful character growth, and high-seas adventure with a rivals-to-lovers edge. I was hooked from the masquerade meet-cute and never looked back." - Kelly Powell on Goodreads

"Katherine really puts your emotions through the wringer. I don’t think I cried so much from a book but cackle like a crazed witch either lol! Honestly was such a great book and I will never stop recommending it to everyone!"- Megs on Goodreads

I absolutely adored reading this book: the banter, the yearnings, the tension were top tiers! It's a romance in a fantasy setting. Both protagonists are on the path of self discovery and acceptance, their personal and relationship growth creates deep connection with the reader and keep you locked in the story.

Crowe’s writing is as atmospheric as ever, painting a vivid picture of the world of Valeria that feels both gritty and magical. The transition from the cozy, gothic tones of the first book to this swashbuckling, expedition-style narrative is seamless; shifts the focus toward high-seas adventure and a razor-sharp "rivals-to-lovers" romance.

Roderick’s personal journey is particularly moving, offering a grounded and sensitive portrayal of mental health struggles that adds significant emotional weight to his character arc. Meanwhile, Anya’s strength and independence provide a perfect foil to his cynicism, creating a dynamic that feels balanced and earned.

While the story is marketed as a standalone, the rich lore and returning political tensions definitely reward those who have read the previous book.

The pacing occasionally dips during the long stretches at sea, where the internal pining takes precedence over the external plot, but the high-stakes finale and the inclusion of a charmingly sassy wyvern more than make up for the quieter moments.

It is a heartfelt, queer-positive romantasy that successfully balances personal growth with a grand sense of adventure.

Thank you for the ARC!
