ANGEL'S GUARDIAN by Zeecé Lugo is a gripping and unusual vampire tale with compelling main characters: desperate, determined survivor Angel, her innocent and appealing children Nina and Marco, and their protector, Max, a gruff, hermit vampire in self-imposed exile. Author Lugo has put quite an original spin on vampire mythology, and I was quickly engrossed in this fast-paced melding of supernatural romance and suspenseful crime thriller.

Beware there are triggers in this book, rape and human traffickers. I love Angel, she is a survivor who has not allowed the evil done to her stop her from living or loving. She did not allow herself to be beaten and it is nice to have a strong woman fight for her future and not to allow her past to define her. Max is wonderful. He went from a selfish man with a hidden heart, to a man in love and his own family. This book is intense, and there are some horrible scenes, but this book is a great read. It is not love at first sight, but the relationship blooms and the love and chemistry is felt.

Once again, Zeece’s characters come alive on the pages, well, screen. The story starts out dark, as we’re introduced to Max whose witnessing a brutal assault on a young woman. What he didn’t expect was this chance encounter would change his whole existence. Suddenly, he finds himself burdened with an injured woman, a baby, and a young girl, Nina. I just adored Nina. She stole so many scenes in this story.
