Description

In the port city of Kabrah, a desperate boy kills six with a sword that whispers promises of power, vengeance, and a throne.

All it asks in return is blood.

Shayne Fisher has spent months scraping together wages on the docks while his father rots in debtor’s prison. When thugs come to sell his sisters into slavery, the ancient weapon his father hid in the ceiling answers his prayer for help. But the sword’s voice grows louder with every kill, and Shayne’s ambitions are beginning to feel less like his own.

Hundreds of miles away, a rambling young cleric named Thomas Blackstone discovers a judge who has been sleeping as a statue for nearly three hundred years. The old man is on a mission of vengeance against a demon that murdered his family, and he needs Thomas to come along. Thomas, who has never left his temple, agrees before he can think better of it. What follows will shatter every comfortable belief he holds about God, goodness, and the true cost of faith.

Meanwhile, the Ella Elizabeth Goodwyrm receives a secret message from her father: the sword that Shayne now wields was stolen from a hidden vault, and their noble family’s future depends on getting it back. As Elizabeth traces the weapon across a politically volatile landscape, she begins to face the pain of an estranged sister, and wonders if her father’s motives are as pure as they appear.

Three paths. One ancient weapon. And a prophecy that will propel them all toward a confrontation none of them can survive unchanged.

In the port city of Kabrah, a desperate boy kills six with a sword that whispers promises of power, vengeance, and a throne.

All it asks in return is blood.

Shayne Fisher has spent months scraping...

The Sword of Iryx
By Patrick Korseck
Pib Date: May 18 2026

This book does everything right and has everything I want in a fantasy book. The pacing is a bit slow for me but that doesn't take away from the quality of the writing or the entertainment value. In the end it is a good read and would recommend for anyone who likes a little slower reading experience.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book early in return for my honest review.

Thanks to Patrick Korseck I get to read this wonderfully engaging fantasy, with a more introspection than you standard sword & sorcery book.
The Sword of Iryx is a great read for fans of darker fantasy who appreciate a character-driven story with a strong central artifact. It may not reinvent the genre, but it executes its ideas with confidence and enough nuance to be different. The masterful background of the sword is detailed to add a mysticism surrounding it, without being verbose.

Highly recommend
