Description

If "secret baby" makes you nervous, stay here for a moment.

This isn't the version where the hero finds out, then forgives her by the next chapter because love conquers all.

Raschad Carter finds out he has a five-year-old son, and he is angry. He spent his entire life making sure he would never be the man his father was. Then he met Simone, fell in love, and without giving him a choice, she made him into his father anyway.

He doesn't forgive her easily. What he does do is show up. Raschad is not the kind of man who runs from hard things, so he uproots his life to make sure he never misses another day of his son's existence. He is also not confused about his feelings. He knows he loves Simone. Never stopped. But she hurt him to his core. Twice. And that sits in his chest, rocking back and forth between grief and fury.

Simone Wade is a woman shaped by grief and abandonment who has spent years living with a secret she never meant to keep. But fear has a way of turning days into years, and "when the time is right" into never. Simone has spent every day carrying the weight of a choice she can't undo, her silence calcified into years before she understood the cage she'd built for herself.

Two people. Two wounds. One son who deserves both of his parents at their best.

They co-parent and pretend they are two people who have figured out how to be in the same room. But what they can't do, no matter how many lines they draw, is pretend this is over. It was never over. It was inevitable.

Love is not the question. The question is whether love can survive what some might call unforgivable. Whether a man can put down his pride and understand that pride isn't the same as protection. Whether a woman who has spent her life guarding herself from more pain can stop disappearing from her own life, and surrender to the man she hurt more than anyone in the world.

Always Mine is the romance you can't put down and think about for weeks after the last page. An HEA that means something because it costs almost everything.

For readers who love:

  • Emotional second-chance romances with high stakes
  • Heroes whose anger is earned, who still love fiercely
  • Heroines with genuine moral complexity who earn their redemption
  • Generational trauma explored with depth and specificity
  • Black love, family legacy, and community as architecture
  • The hard work of choosing each other again, with eyes wide open
  • Deep intimacy and an HEA that costs something

Book Two in The Wade Legacy Series. Interconnected standalone.

This book was beautifully done. I already loved Always Running and I couldn't wait for the rest of the Wade siblings' stories. Simone had been dealing with the trauma from what happened with her parents for so long that she let it get in the way of her happiness, and her son growing up with his father. This was a story about second chances, forgiveness and ultimately love. It took some time, and a twist in the end that had my heart hurting, but Simone and Raschad deserved their happily ever after. I can't wait to read Julian's book next. Thank you Chapter & Soul and Net Galley for allowing me to read this!

Simone and Raschad knocked me down in ways I did not expect. “Always Mine” showed up as both a contemporary love story and a therapy session. The wounds in both of these characters seemed visible early. I did not expect the depth of emotions I experienced throughout this story. These Carter and Wade families felt like people I knew, and made this story feel like home. Adult characters living flawed, adult lives and finding a resolution that centers on family is what romance shows can become. I wholeheartedly recommend taking this journey with Simone and Raschad.

I need to go back and read book 1 but book 2 , we follow Simone who is the baby of the Wade family and who works in operations for Wade House.
Her life consists of work and being the best mother to her son. Everything was going well until Raschad came back into her world.
Recovering from an injury, Raschad finds other work in his other passion, music which brings him to Wade House and back in the presence of Simone.
The person who walked away from her years ago. That's where our story begins with them.
Overall this story is about two people coming back into each other's lives and truly heal after all the hurt and pain that they both went through separately and together. The music aspect of this story brings more depth to this story.

Received an ARC from NetGalley - THANK YOU

This was a 6*

Right from the first chapter, I LOOOOOOOVED this story

This was the first time I have read this author, I LOVED this whole story.

The reality of having children, with the stories of which she captured. Also, the way in which she put in the soundtrack.
ALSO the reality of child birth - and what comes with it.

SUCH A life changing book

This was an amazing read--it was heartwarming, serious, cozy, with some drama all in one. All of the characters felt so real with their personalities, their backgrounds, their current lives, situations, etc. The pacing of this book...the author did not play around...it was great. It gotten to the point without me becoming bored at all. Raschad, Simone, and Zhaire were all so sweet and real and the side characters...their support system were as well. It is told in a dual POV between both lovers and the author did great at portraying them both as far as their emotions, thoughts, what and why they did what they did, and more.

Great character development in the story -- steady, but not too slow. Simone did have me thinking, "Girl, come on..." (without ruining anything), but she was still a cool character. I will recommend this read and can't wait to read more from this author.
