Description

The digital age may have shortened the human story to only 140 characters, with social media posts often only hitting the plot points, but Drew Lyons invites the reader to see more. Through a series of personal essays-about childhood memories, friendships, and meeting new people-Drew details more than just his plot points.

Whether it 's taking his dog to an emergency vet after a dog bite and interacting with unexpected celebrities, visiting an unknown uncle with his grandmother, meeting a cab driver whose story sticks long after he closes the door, or traveling with his best friend before his untimely death, Lyons navigates his life with humor, curiosity, and gratitude, reminding readers that the unforeseen can lurk around any corner.

. . . See More: A Collection of Personal Essays includes one short fictional piece as bonus material.

Thank you, Köehler Books, for providing this book for a voluntary review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

In …See More Drew Lyons pens several essays, really personal stories, drawn from personal experiences, which immerse you into the events and may trigger memories of similar experiences of your own. The book title is a reference to social media platforms that encourage short posts (e.g., 140 characters) that cannot capture the full human experience. He asks the reader to “see more” with him.

All the essays were short but well-composed and gave me a sense of being right there at the scene and feeling the emotions of the characters. Lyons reflects on a visit with an unknown uncle with his grandmother, dealing with an emergency visit to the vet, where he meets two celebrities, the death of a close friend, and a cab driver with an intriguing past. Lyons reminds us that we are social beings and having conversations beyond the social media post or sound bite is as important as ever.

I recommend this short and enjoyable read to everyone!
