Description
This exuberant, kinetic picture book gleefully celebrates smashing and composting your Halloween jack-o-lantern instead of throwing it away.
Tee it up and take a swing . . .
Launch it from a sling . . .
Climb up high and let it drop . . .
Turn it into pumpkin slop!
Instead of dumping rotting jack-o-lanterns in the trash, award-winning picture book author Michelle Schaub invites readers to take them to a pumpkin smash! Stomping and squashing pumpkins into compost helps them to decompose—providing nutrients for the soil, seeds for next year’s harvest, and plenty of post-Halloween fun. With lively, lyrical text and Rilla Alexander’s bright, beguiling illustrations, Pumpkin Smash is an upbeat and playful celebration of Halloween—and a call to action to reduce landfill waste and support local ecosystems.

I love everything about this book - genius idea with great illustrations. Perfect for a storytime, anytime! Even if you have twenty pumpkin books - this is totally worth purchasing. LOVE IT!

Gorgeous and non-traditional fall colors (think bright blues and vivid greens to complement the orange and yellow of the season) with a fun tale about the “afterlife” of a pumpkin and how to have fun once Halloween is over.

My three year old loved this book! The story is engaging and had her repeating along with me. The illustrations are really cute and well stylized. My daughter's favorite holiday is Halloween so this waa definitely a huge hit.
Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC!
Pumpkin Smash is a charming picture book that follows the journey of pumpkins after Halloween, showing young readers that the season doesn’t have to end once the decorations come down. It blends a fun story with themes of nature, community, and renewal.
My kids loved this one. The artwork is absolutely beautiful and full of all the cozy autumn colors that make fall so special. The story is simple, engaging, and perfect for reading together during the Halloween season. This would make a great addition to any Halloween boo basket in October and is the kind of book I can see families returning to year after year. 🎃📚

What a fun seasonal Children's book! I will definitely be requesting my branch purchase a copy of this. I can see myself adding this to my Halloween storytime and the kids loving it for both the fun writing as well as the beautiful visuals.

This is how you write a fun and educational children’s book!
The premise behind this being decomposition and landfill waste is super interesting and a topic that isn’t spoken about a lot. I think this book can bring more kids to ask questions about compositing and the way soil can be ‘made’ from doing this.
The art work was fantastic! A brilliant book to read in the autumn, with cosy illustrations and bright and bold colours.

What a great idea! Personally, I have never heard of this activity. What kid or a grownup even wouldn't love to smash a pumpkin? I enjoyed the bright colors but felt the illustrations were to busy. This would be a great addition for any teacher's library. Homeschooling families would really like this kind of activity too.
