Smoke and Mirrors: Act 1 is a collection of eighteen interconnected horror stories designed to be read like the chapters of a novel.

Set on the island of Ciabha in the present day, stories that contribute to a broader view while some remain standing on their own. Gradually building a shared world and atmosphere, the collection forms the first part of a four-book series and draws its inspiration from Cloaks and Daggers (1798), an eighteenth-century novella whose influence echoes and twists throughout the stories. When the reader concludes a story from the present, they are invited to read a chapter from the past.
