Always Yours was such a beautiful and emotionally grounded romance. Alyssa and Julian’s story is a true slow burn, built on friendship, trust, and all the quiet moments that slowly turn into something neither of them was looking for.
I really loved Alyssa as a character. Watching her rebuild her life and create a sense of safety and stability for herself and her son made her journey feel especially meaningful. Julian was equally compelling, with so much of his identity tied to protecting and providing for everyone around him. Their connection developed naturally through morning runs, lunches, conversations, and simply being present for one another.
The friends-to-lovers progression was one of my favorite parts. There was so much longing and tension beneath their friendship, and watching them slowly realize that they had become more important to each other than either wanted to admit was incredibly satisfying. Their romance felt mature, intentional, and earned.
I also appreciated how the story handled grief, survival, family, and learning to make space for happiness after loss. The emotional moments had weight without overwhelming the romance, and the Black love at the center of the story was written with so much warmth and care.
Overall, Always Yours was tender, romantic, and deeply emotional. Alyssa and Julian’s love story takes its time, but that made the payoff even sweeter. A beautiful romance about finding love when you are not looking for it and realizing that letting someone care for you can be its own kind of strength.

Always Yours: A Slow-Burn Romance by N.W. Brown is the third book in her Wade Legacy Series. The first two books featured younger siblings Zion and Simone, respectively, Always Running and Always Mine. The books are interconnected because characters cross over; however, all books can be read as standalones.
Always Yours showcases older brother and family linchpin, Julian Wade. At nineteen his family imploded with the passing of his mother and Julian had to step up and fill shoes too big for him. The death of his mother effectively paralyzed his father, and he walked away from the family. Subsequently, Julian became surrogate parent, head of their music company and the glue holding everyone else together. He CARRIED every burden and nineteen years later he has not relinquished the load.
Alyssa Carter knows a great deal about carrying loads. For much of her marriage she scurried around to please her husband, being the kind of wife who was self-sufficient and self-sustaining, Not taking up too much space or asking for too much of his time and none of his efforts. Only to learn in the most public and humiliating fashion that his efforts, affection, attention and money were placed in other endeavors: women, shady deals, actively robbing Peter, Paul AND Alyssa. When the smoke clears Alyssa is a widow with a young child (adorable Micah), undeserved notoriety and no assets. So, when eventually her brother, Raschad Carter (Always Mine) invites her to relocate from New Jersey to Lennox Falls, she welcomes the opportunity as a reset.
Julian and Alyssa have known each other tangentially since their siblings are married and they share a niece and a nephew. Once in Lennox Falls, Julian and Alyssa form a gradual and sometimes rocky friendship. For different reasons and different sources of trauma, they are not looking for romance. But when the heart is involved, memos about intentions are often ignored. These two skittish, damaged and hesitant people soon find themselves reluctantly but hopelessly in love. But can they navigate the weight of the past and find a way to love each other in the here and now or will their collective damage be too much to overcome?
Conclusion:
This book is the first one that I have read by this author. Even without having read the other Wade books, this one was easy to follow, and I was able to keep all the players straight. I do want to delve into the previous books since this one made such a positive impression; complex, funny, well-written and emotionally rich, it is a must read.
Between the callous antics of Alyssa’s husband and the description of Julian’s mother’s passing, Ms. Brown takes her readers on a visceral journey of grief and the damage a toxic relationship can do to the spirit AND future relationships. Julian and Alyssa handled their emotional baggage by approaching romance in different ways. Julian curates and controls his relationships, really situationships, and never allows them into his “real world”. On the other hand, Alyssa has closed herself off from love and never dates, to the chagrin of her supportive sisters.
One of the book’s interesting substories is the continual reappearance of one of Julian's “curated relationships”, Sabrina gives stalker vibes and as the old folks would say “somethin’ bout her ain’t right” 😊. Final words, this is a lengthy book and I enjoyed every word. From the beginning of the story to the end, we see so much growth and progress from our main characters; their initial friendship was so sweet, and they had the love part on lock, they just needed to add true trust and flexibility to the equation which they did! Ms. Brown plans to release Tre’s story next as well as a prequel staring the patriarch and matriarch of the Wade family.

What a beautiful and emotional love story. I fell in love with this family's story when I read Always Running and Always Mine. Julian and Alyssa's story was so raw and touching. Alyssa built her life back up from nothing when everything crumbled around her. Julian has been in boss mode, not just in his career, but his personal life as well when he took charge of his family after his mothers passing and fathers disappearance. This is a book that reminds you that it is ok to be soft and allow others to pour into you when you need it. Their story also reminds you that grieving has no timeline and it is ok to feel your feelings instead of pushing them to the back. This is a 5 star read for me, I could not put this book down and was a little sad when I finished it. I know the next book in the series is the telling of their parents story and while I cannot wait to read, I know their love story will rip me up and put me back together. The dialogue felt natural, the chemistry was undeniable, and there were several moments that had me smiling just as much as they had me tearing up. This was a new to me author and one that did NOT disappoint! This is the kind of slow burn I don’t mind AT ALL! There was truly no other way to tell this story with the same grace and intention. The pacing allowed me to really sit with the story, to digest it, feel it, and take in all the little moments instead of rushing through them.
And whew… I felt every bit of this story.😭❤️ The emotions, the tension, the vulnerability… all of it.

Her being a single mom was never treated as a dealbreaker, and watching Julian love and provide for her hit every soft spot. Micah himself is an absolute scene-stealer. He’s just so adorable.

Alyssa’s ex is exactly the kind of poorly-behaved ex you love to hate. There are enough twists and turns to keep the pacing engaging, though it did drag in a few spots. Still, watching both Julian and Alyssa grow over the course of the story, and finally get to rest in a love that feels earned, made it worth the ride.

First book by the author that I have read and it’s a 5 stars for me! This was a really beautiful story and the music included was chef’s kiss. I just realized it is series, so I will definitely be reading those books. Loved the little karaoke moments😌. Both Julian and Alyssa were perfect for each other and both had to unlearn what they were used to.
