Description

When grief derails Mark Steiner’s life, an expedition to the Arctic tests the measure of what remains. An extreme guide, shattered by his girlfriend’s disappearance, is drawn back into the wilderness by his partner Rob and by an offer too lucrative to ignore - $300,000 to escort a mysterious patron and his tight-lipped entourage to the North Pole.

What begins as a perilous journey slowly unravels into something darker—shifting ice, hidden crevasses, and a creeping paranoia that takes root in the mind. As the cold distorts reality, Mark’s memories turn vivid and violent; Rob’s buried past resurfaces; and the strangers in their care reveal disturbing ties to an ancient, darker order. Beyond the reach of rescue, the Pole becomes a mirror, reflecting each man’s most dangerous self and the world’s quiet conspiracies.

Polaris is a relentless psychological thriller and survival tale — part adventure, part myth — about obsession, consequence, and whether a man can ever choose his fate when the ice makes the rules.

A Note From the Publisher

Marek Kamiński (b. 1964, Gdańsk, Poland) is a polar explorer, philosopher, and innovator. He was the first person to reach both the North and South Poles in one year without assistance, a Guinness World Record achievement. In 2004, he repeated the journey with 15-year-old Jan Mela, proving that resilience can overcome limitations. Today, he combines exploration with innovation, developing tools for personal growth and collaborating on AI and robotics projects. Through his foundation and academy, he inspires people worldwide to expand boundaries and discover their own “poles.”

Advance Praise

"Kamiński elevates what could be another extreme-adventure thriller by incorporating paranormal elements in the form of spirits who plague the adventurers by reminding them what they’ve lost—and everything comes together in a memorably frenetic, frostbitten feat of storytelling. The snow and cold are the least of the hurdles to be cleared in this spookily compelling thriller." - Kirkus Reviews

"Polaris is a terse, atmospheric ode to the world and every strange thing that lives within it. It’s a tense, uneasy ride that doesn’t quite unravel all its mysteries but is no lesser for keeping a few things to itself. The beautifully rendered, distinctive setting is reason enough to give this one a go, but the psychological and uncanny elements also pack a punch." - Independent Book Review

"The more I read, the more exciting the story became. The book was excellently written, and at times I felt cold as if I were there myself. I enjoyed reading the book and cannot stop thinking about everything that had happened." - Reader's Favorite
