Description

Makayla was already a hot mess—broke, neurotic, running on caffeine and anxiety, and nowhere near prepared for magic to be real.

Then she casts her first spell.

By morning, monsters are hunting her and her old life is gone.

Guided by a snarky warlock gunfighter and tempted by an alluring succubus with secrets of her own, Makayla is dragged into New York’s supernatural underworld, where the monsters are not like the fairytales.

She discovers a city ruled from the shadows by liches, vampires, fairies and warlords. Here, magic is political, every favor comes with teeth, and power is the only law that matters.

Unfortunately, Makayla doesn’t have any power. Yet.

She isn’t chosen. She has no grand destiny. She’s a magical nobody learning on the run, forced to fight for every scrap of strength she can steal, earn, or bargain for.

But Makayla has Will.

And when she discovers an entire people in chains, she can’t walk away—even if challenging their masters puts her directly in the path of forces that could crush her without a second thought.

To survive, Makayla must learn fast, bluff well, and choose her monsters carefully. She’ll have to decide when to bargain, when to bend, and when to burn the whole system down rather than kneel.

Because in a world where obedience is the price of survival, refusing to be owned may be the most dangerous power of all.

Dark, violent, sexy, and wickedly funny. The Scion The Lich and The Warlock is an adult urban fantasy packed with explosive action, morally gray choices, fierce women, awakening desires, found family, and a heroine who would rather become a monster than belong to one.

Makayla was already a hot mess—broke, neurotic, running on caffeine and anxiety, and nowhere near prepared for magic to be real.

Then she casts her first spell.

By morning, monsters are hunting her and...

The Scion, the Lich, and the Warlock was such a fun read. It had the perfect mix of adventure, magic, humor, and heart, and I found myself flying through it because I always wanted to know what would happen next. The world-building was detailed enough to feel immersive without slowing down the story, and the magic system kept things interesting from start to finish.

The characters were easily my favorite part. They all had distinct personalities, and the banter and relationships made the story feel so much more engaging. Even during the quieter moments, I never lost interest because I was so invested in the characters and their journey.

The pacing was consistently strong, with plenty of action balanced by meaningful character development. By the end, everything came together in a satisfying way while still leaving me wishing I had more time with these characters.

This was an easy five-star read for me and one I’ll definitely be recommending to anyone looking for a character-driven fantasy with plenty of magic and adventure.

What a fun and imaginative fantasy! The combination of powerful magic, memorable characters, and creative world-building made this such an enjoyable read. Every time I thought I knew where the story was headed, another surprise kept me turning pages.

I especially appreciated the balance between humor, action, and character development. The cast felt distinct, and their interactions added so much personality to the story.

If you enjoy fantasy filled with magic, adventure, and larger-than-life characters, this one is well worth picking up.

Perfectly fun bisexual romance with a hint of paranormal fantasy- makes me nostalgic for 2010s new adult books

Fantasy, urban. From the start the author’s style was confusing, chaotic, nebulous. But soon it made sense, the style fitting the thoughts of Makayla the FMC. Eighteen, thrown into a supernatural underworld of New York (I think). That confusion I felt reading is matched as Makayka tries to make sense of her new situation.

There’s lots of romance and feelings. But this is on the page, smoothly off scene, left up to the reader to fill in the blanks and details in any way they choose. I found this entirely refreshing, compared to recent fantasy romance trends. Which in part explains my 5 stars.

The story line, action and big battles reminded me a bit of that in the Dresden Files. But the book definitely has its own vibe too.

The author provides lots of supernatural characters, humour and cats.

I really look forward to the next book in this series.

Omg! Damn that was a ride and I used to love urban fantasy romances but fell out but now I'm firmly back in. The female main character is sassy and fierce the love interests are vast and scorching hot and that is so fast paced too. I love the writing style and flew through this in a few days. Will be reading more from in future.
