This is one of those rare books that teaches you as much as it moves you.

Denial Creek is a dark, emotionally demanding psychological mystery that explores generational trauma, addiction, abuse, and mental illness with remarkable depth and compassion. As the story progresses, the mystery becomes much more prominent, but it never overshadows the emotional heart of the novel.

This isn't a quick or easy read. The multiple timelines, large cast of characters, and intricate plotting meant I often had to stop, reread sections, and get my bearings. In the end, though, the complexity absolutely paid off. Everything gradually came together in a way that felt thoughtful and rewarding.

The emotional impact is what stayed with me most. It's a heartbreaking story about needless suffering, the cycles of trauma that echo across generations, and the devastating consequences when people who need help are failed by those who should protect them. I finished the book with a profound sense of emptiness rather than closure, and after sitting with it, I realised that was exactly the point.

I would recommend this to readers who enjoy literary psychological mysteries with complex characters, dark themes, and stories that leave you thinking long after you've finished.
