Description

Beginning with a story of an ex sex-worker drifting through a small rural town in the south, and ending with a young woman's wedding night, who learns from her new husband what it takes to kill a man, Nash writes across the complications of working class women, rendering their desires with visceral prose and psychologically dissecting the fundamental root that threads her work: craving and the conflicts within.

Perfect for readers of She's Always Hungry by Eliza Clark, Brainwyrms by Alison Rumfitt and New Animal by Ella Baxter.

NUDES, SHORT STORIES BY ELLE NASH: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was so entertaining. Dark, mature and psychologicalically deep with a side of humour. I love when girls are such messed up characters in media, it allows a portrayal of things typically seen as taboo.

This was a fun, gruesome collection of short stories. I enjoyed this female centred collection and the individual stories were so well done! Highly recommend checking this out!

This is weird girl lit.
Gross & unsettling but in a diva way.
I loved every minute.
If it’s making your stomach turn, it’s make you feel.

I truly enjoyed this short story collection. Apart from 2-3 exceptions, I found most stories very entertaining and compulsively readable. I think the best ones are actually the longer ones, but that might be just me normally preferring reading novels rather than short stories. The writing is full-bodied, it seemingly comes with its own flesh and bone. Bodies are indeed a central part of this collection: loved, hated, often abused, always at the bottom of intricate obsessions. The eponymous story was probably my absolute favourite, followed closely by the ones concerned with eating disorders and the one about the cat-lovers chatroom. I'd just like to hug half of the characters in this book and to tell them it will be alright, even though it doesn't look like that now. The story I probably liked the least was the first one in the collection, I'm not sure why it got such a prominent spot, but again, this may be subjective. One last thing I'd like to mention: I really enjoyed the discussion on the differences between anorexia and bulimia, on how differently the media and the general public perceive them, because I have literally never thought about eating disorders in this way and I found the narrator's perspective absolutely fascinating. I recently discovered I own a novel by the same author, "Animals Eat Each Other", and I'm definitely going to read it very soon. I would recommend the collection even to those who don't normally read short stories (like me): this one makes a pretty good read.
