Ellie Harlow and the Secret Light of Yosemite is a charming middle grade adventure that blends art, history, mystery, and magic into an imaginative story young readers will easily get lost in.
Ellie is a wonderful protagonist whose curiosity and unique way of seeing the world make her easy to root for. The idea of stepping through a famous painting into Yosemite is creative, and the story does a great job capturing the wonder and beauty of both art and nature. The mystery unfolds at a steady pace, keeping the pages turning while encouraging readers to look beyond what's on the surface.
I also appreciated the thoughtful neurodivergent representation. It felt like a natural part of Ellie's character and added another layer to an already engaging adventure.
The illustrations and magical atmosphere make this an excellent choice for middle grade readers who enjoy fantasy, museums, hidden worlds, and exciting adventures.
