Description

‘Love and work… work and love, that’s all there is.’ (Sigmund Freud)

Matthew is a young artist, living hand-to-mouth and dreaming of a life out of reach. Oska is a new girl in town, her history obscure. Slowly their relationship grows, chance encounters at first, then deeper, closer, till one day Oska makes Matthew an offer, a startling offer, one that could answer all his dreams. But there’s a catch... make that several catches.

Way Out is an offbeat story tracing the dance of love and friendship, with twists and turns and a vein of dry humour.

So that’s the spiel. In fact, this is a slow-moving, character-driven story whose main character is somewhat of an anti-hero – just trying to get by, sort out his relationships and find his creative direction. Not recommended for drama junkies or kickarse action aficionados. The settings are unusual. It will help if you have experience with homelessness, health management/government bureaucracy, or media/celebrity. If all three, you have struck it lucky.

In essence, this is a story about getting by from day to day, negotiating relationships, looking for work that is deeply fulfilling, and dealing with the sh*t that life throws at you along the way.

NB: for what it’s worth, I’ve been told I’m rubbish at vocative commas. Hang on, I’m being called for dinner. When are we going to eat grandma? Now, apparently. IYKYK.
