Description
THE SCAVENGER HUNT is a fast-paced, bonkers ensemble caper with a dash of astrological magic and just enough romance to make things messy.
Avery Simpson is out of time.
Divorced, broke, and raising her five-year-old daughter alone, she’s thirty days away from losing the San Francisco Victorian home she inherited from her mother due to the overdue property tax bill she can’t possibly pay. When Avery’s best friend Bridget arrives to provide moral support, Avery reveals that she’s got one last Hail Mary up her sleeve—a new moon manifestation ceremony to ask the cosmos for financial assistance. Is it ridiculous? Maybe. But Avery needs money, a higher-caliber man... heck, a miracle.
By morning, the universe answers.
A viral announcement hits the pop-culture zeitgeist with a bang because a local eccentric candy company owner is hosting a high-stakes, women-only scavenger hunt with a life-changing cash prize. Avery and Bridget freak out, but if they manifested this, surely Avery will be chosen.
And she is.
Avery is placed on one of the four teams of four women and is thrilled to see that each team has a chaperone, one of the grandsons of the candy company's founder. Meet thirty-four-year-old Anders Carlson—unconventional thinker, youngest grandson. Tons of fun. He’s also one of San Francisco’s most eligible bachelors. Anders is so very easy on the eyes, but a lot is going on under his head of thick, dark hair, mostly how to assist the four women he’s been tasked with chaperoning (even if he’s not supposed to be helping them at all).
As they race against a ticking clock, the team’s courage (and antics!) escalate as they fight for the lead while gathering the five (super tricky) scavenger hunt items. Along the way, the four women learn of each other's personal struggles as they bond and brainstorm to solve problems. Anders becomes increasingly instrumental in their endeavors, and the icing on the cake is that something tantalizing and hopeful is building between Avery and Anders.
What if the universe didn’t just give her a way to save her home? What if it gave her everything she’s ever wanted?

Thank you to NetGalley and Athena Parker for allowing me to read an ARC of The Scavenger Hunt: A Novel of Chaos and Cosmic Manifestation by Athena Parker, in exchange for my honest review.
Phenomenal! I loved this book SO MUCH! The women were amazing, the relationships they built were amazing, the camaraderie, the thoughtfulness—all of it was spectacular!
The concept was absolutely stupendous, and the execution was so much fun. It was lively, encouraging, and uplifting on so many levels. I loved watching the women come together, figure things out, support each other, and become such a fantastic team. The friendships and teamwork were EVERYTHING.
Anders... Swoon. 😍 He was also, yes, amazing! I loved his relationship with Avery and how much he genuinely cared about helping everyone, even when he probably shouldn't have been. 😂
Honestly, everything about this book worked for me—the scavenger hunt, the friendships, the romance, the chaos, the ideas, the heart. It was just FUN.
I may want to add more to this review later, but right now all I can think is...I'm sad it's over. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these women (and Anders!). 💕
