Another insightful and information-packed thriller from an author who clearly knows his subject. The story moves at a good pace while tackling corruption, smuggling, organised crime and the trafficking of African tobacco and gold. There is a lot to absorb, but I enjoyed the wealth of detail and the historical and political background.
What I particularly appreciate is the way the book brings attention to issues surrounding Africa and international smuggling that are often largely ignored in the West. The information never feels like an afterthought; it is woven into the story and gives the thriller a sense of substance and purpose.
That said, I did occasionally wonder whether there might be too much information for readers who aren't already familiar with these subjects. The numerous details, characters and layers of context can be demanding at times. Then again, perhaps readers who pick up this series are precisely those who want that depth.
Smart, thought-provoking and constantly moving forward, with plenty of fascinating detail. A compelling read for anyone interested in African politics, organised crime and the darker side of international trafficking.
