Description
In far-future Neopolis, a virus has affected the entire population from birth. All sexual relations between genders are strictly forbidden, as they are absolutely fatal. Raised to hate the opposite sex, boys and girls live in a city separated by a wall. But the appearance of N-Dorphin, a revolutionary drug, disrupts the status quo. Kenzell and Lesya, two dissidents of opposite sexes, find themselves embroiled in a merciless clan war and will have to face a reality beyond their control . . .
At the crossroads of genres, blending numerous graphic and scriptwriting influences, this sci-fi adventure by animation director Joël Dos Reis Viegas paints a picture of a society on the verge of implosion, haunted by death, structured by fear, indoctrination, and the deprivation of the most fundamental freedom: the freedom to love who you choose. The full story that originated as a (successfully Kickstarted) animation pilot designed and directed by the author. This four-volume series completes the narrative arc of the originally proposed animated series.

Urbance, Vol. 1 is an electric, neon-drenched burst of dystopian sci-fi that delivers massive style and an intriguing high-concept premise. Joël Dos Reis Viegas creates a compelling, fractured world in Neopolis, where a deadly virus makes intimacy between sexes fatal, leaving a segregated city fueled by tribal clan rivalries and deep-seated paranoia.
The visual storytelling is easily the standout element. Given Viegas’s background in animation, the artwork is kinetic, expressive, and brimming with urban swagger, streetwear aesthetics, and bold, vivid coloring. The pacing moves fast, and while the sheer volume of lore and character introductions can feel a bit rushed in this opening volume, the central dynamic between Kenzell and Lesya effectively anchors the stakes.
A stylish, energetic kickoff that will definitely appeal to fans of cyberpunk aesthetics, gritty action, and bio-punk worldbuilding.

I can’t wait to read ten second volume and see what happens to the main characters. I love the premise of the book and can’t wait to see what happens next.
