Ana Blufelt is the most powerful spellslinger in Tabaria, and when a divine quest promised vast riches, I understood exactly why she couldn’t resist. But success was only ever almost certain, and I was gripped the moment things began to unravel. With people vanishing, unrest spilling through the streets, and a bigoted death cult striking the match, the royal family tasks her with saving Tabaria, all while a dead girl trails her everywhere. Ana and Tola were my favorite part. Everyone could see their feelings from a mile away except the two of them, and watching that slow realization made me grin. I thought I’d guessed where the story was heading more than once, and I was completely wrong each time. The cult storyline took everything to another level. Dark, violent, and full of heart.
