Spirit guide Pearly Gates has shared countless lives—and holidays—with her soulmate, Thunder. But after he misses their annual holidate and is placed on mandatory leave for burnout, even their timeless romance could use a little Christmas magic.

Then Pearly’s sent to Bellhaven, where a grieving high school principal has canceled the beloved holiday musical once directed by his late husband. Disguised as a custodian and drawing on her past-life experience as a drag queen, Pearly rallies his furious daughter and a band of determined theater kids to stage an unauthorized replacement: The Jingle Rebellion, a musical about a mourning Santa who cancels Christmas—and the elves who refuse to surrender their joy.

When the production finds an unlikely home at the local roller rink, Pearly persuades Thunder to don the red suit. Soon they’re surrounded by roller-skating elves, improvised costumes, new romance, queer found family, and a town determined to make the season sparkle.

But putting on a show is easier than fixing the people you love. To save Christmas—and their own happily-ever-after—Pearly and Thunder may have to stop clinging to their familiar roles and make room for something new.
