High in the Swiss Alps, with glorious mountain views and exclusive access to powdery slopes, the Grand Alpine Hotel draws guests from far and wide.

The notorious actress

The high-flying politician

The inscrutable political wife

The reckless friend

The shrewd doctor

But when a guest enters a gondola alive, only to be found dead at the top of the mountain, it’s clear there’s a killer in their midst.

As tensions rise, and old grudges emerge like cracks in the ice, someone watches from the shadows. An unassuming woman with an extraordinary mind: Miss Marple.

She suspects everyone in the hotel, and she’s right to. For it isn’t just a question of who has a motive, but who’s next…

I listened to the audiobook and did this as an immersive read, my goodness it was good! The narrators were fantastic and it really drew me in and wrapped me.ina Miss Marple cardigan of comfort! I am an Agatha Christie fan and I was incredibly curious how Lucy Foley would present the icon that is Miss Marple in a new novel. I wasn't disappointed, she did a wonderful job of bringing her to life with the dialogue and having her familiar traits of knitting and observing woven throughout the story. I could practically feel her watching from the pages of the book.

The setting was ideal for this kind of mystery, glamorous, isolated and able to be shrouded in a growing sense of dread as the body count begins to grow and the snow keeps on falling.

The POV chapters worked well to fill in blanks where Miss Marple could not be or to give the history of the whole affair. The characters were often morally grey, hidden behind shifting masks and they all fit well within the 1950s landscape with their thoughts and actions in keeping with that time period.

Overall I had a great time and can see this book being adapted for the screen in the future. I'll happily recommend to any Agatha fans or just period loving murder mystery fans.

Thank you to the author, Harper Collins UK Audio and Netgalley for my copy.

A genuinely delightful homage to Agatha Christie — and a fitting celebration of the 50th anniversary of Christie’s passing and of her final published book.

The plot is tight, clever, and satisfyingly twisty, filled with those classic Christie ingredients: a closed circle of suspects, shifting alliances, buried motives, and the irresistible sense that everyone is hiding something — especially the one who seems least suspicious.

The intertextual nods are a joy. There are playful, affectionate references to Murder on the Orient Express, Sleeping Murder, and several other Christie investigations. None of them feel forced; instead, they create a warm thread of recognition for readers who grew up on Christie’s mysteries. For me, it added an extra layer of pleasure — especially in a year that marks fifty years since Christie’s death, the same year I was born.

The multi‑POV structure works beautifully in audio. The narrators capture each character’s tone and temperament with precision, making the shifting perspectives feel vivid and immersive.

A smart, affectionate, and thoroughly enjoyable celebration of Christie’s legacy.

This was such a fun mystery to listen to, and the multicast narration really elevated the experience. Hayley Atwell, Lucy Boynton, Adeel Akhtar, Mara Wilson and Hugh Kermode make up a fantastic cast, giving the different characters their own distinct voices and bringing the atmosphere of the Grand Alpine Hotel to life.

I particularly enjoyed the combination of the snowy Alpine setting, glamorous guests and classic locked-room-style mystery. There are plenty of secrets, shifting suspicions and enough twists to keep you guessing about who can be trusted.

And, of course, having Miss Marple at the heart of it gives the story that wonderful sense of classic mystery nostalgia, while Lucy Foley brings her own modern storytelling style to the character.

For me, the outstanding cast was a real highlight. If you enjoy atmospheric mysteries and audiobooks with a full ensemble cast, this is definitely one to add to your listening list.

Thank you to Netgalley and the UK publishers for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Take a bow Foley. That is all.

A true return to form after Midnight Feast. Thats all Ill say on that 😅

This was just the perfect recipe cooked up masterfully:
The nostalgia of Marple on the page, and executed so true to Christies creation. ✅️
An isolated snowy setting.✅️
A backstory with so much more to it than meets the eye ✅️
A cast of characters who all have a part to play, with secrets, ulterior motives galore ✅️
A quick jump into the action ✅️
A mystery perfectly paced and unravelled ✅️

I have no notes. I hope for more crossovers like this!

I had forgotten how much I love Miss Marple, and this completely reminded me why.

Lucy Foley has created a wonderfully contained mystery that feels genuinely Christie-esque without simply feeling like a copy of one of Christie's books. The Grand Alpine Hotel is an excellent setting for a closed-circle mystery: isolated, atmospheric and full of people who all have something to hide.

The cast is fabulous. There are enough suspects to keep you guessing, but not so many that it becomes difficult to keep track of anyone. Every character feels distinct and properly developed, with their own history and motives, so I found myself suspicious of practically everyone at some point. The mystery plays fair with the reader, and when the solution was revealed, it felt both surprising and completely satisfying.

I also loved the pacing. The short chapters give the story a real sense of momentum, and although I was already invested in the mystery, they made it particularly difficult to stop reading. I finished the book in a day.

The writing has a nice light touch too. The setting is beautifully described and creates exactly the right atmosphere without becoming overly poetic, and there are little wry observations throughout that occasionally made me smile.

Miss Marple herself becomes particularly enjoyable once she gets properly involved in the investigation. Watching her quietly observe, inspect and notice the things everyone else overlooks was exactly what I wanted from a Marple mystery. For me, the appeal of Christie has never been solely about solving the murder; it's about spending time with characters like Marple and Poirot, and I was genuinely delighted to spend time with Miss Marple again.

The audiobook made the experience even more enjoyable. The narration brought the characters and setting to life and added to the atmosphere without distracting from the mystery.

I honestly can't find anything I would change. This was a thoroughly satisfying mystery from beginning to end, and one that I would particularly recommend to readers who love Agatha Christie, fair-play mysteries, closed-circle mysteries and a strong ensemble of suspects.

And if Lucy Foley writes another Miss Marple, I will be the first in line to read it.
