A clandestine assignment takes him to wartime New York, where he discovers that nations fighting for honorable causes may still demand dishonorable acts. Then, in the spring of 1944, he parachutes into southern France with his flamboyant French partner, Dominic.

With the Allied invasion of Europe approaching, Thomas acquires information that could influence the coming campaign. His orders force him to confront one of espionage's most uncomfortable truths: deceiving the enemy is expected. Deceiving one's friends can be just as necessary.
